The ballad of the lonely walker
As he walked in the cloudy day
In stormy September.
She only forgot, the most
Important thing to remember.
Her life was the thing that she forgot;
She’d left it her bed.
Quietly, slumbering peacefully,
A bullet in her head.
She could not feel the things she passed
And shivered on her way,
The pearly gates awaited her
And kept the cold at bay.
The world was swimming to her now
Her soul had reached the gate,
When suddenly her killer,
Yelled for her to wait.
His frenzied hair was wild
And his clothes were all but fine,
You see, after he had shot her,
He had begun to pine.
"The world need you," said he,
"And so do me now
So come back this moment
And shall I to you bow"
She shook her head and sighed
Oh how she loved this man
But he had thought her cheating,
And stole her purple fan.
With it he lulled her to her bed
And sent her straight to sleep
She was dead 'for a minute was passed
And he began to weep.
For she was dead, the lifeless corpse
Was everything he held dear?
So as he saw her soul at rest
He wanted to draw near.
"Stay back, live one of the flesh
Because dead you'll be
If you draw near to the gates
And that would bring your pain to me"
"I know, I’ll join the dead with you,"
As he cut his wrists
He eyes began to falter
As well as his fists
"No!" the ghost wept as she knew
Where he would go.
For as she would rise to heaven,
He would sink below.
The world was moving quickly
From the day unto the night.
But nothing changed the feeling
Of those lovers' blight.
