Summary: A collection of poems about the wonders of nature and the need to care for our planet.

Part I: The Gift

They didn't know what to do with it.
They'd never had a gift like it before
Their parents gave it to them
They had kept it for a long time
It was old and worn, but it was useable
It was the only one they had
Their parents had taught them how to work it
They had taught them how to make it work for them
The children promised to take good care of it
They learned more about it every day
They learned more than their parents and grandparents ever knew
At first they took good care of it
But soon it wasn't worth as much to them as it was before
They got it dirty, but never cleaned it
They emptied it, and never refilled it
They even lost parts of it
But when they went back to look for them, they weren't there.
And soon they stopped caring and forgot about them
After a long time, they had learned all they could about the gift
They had kept it for a long time
It was older and more worn, but it was still usable
It was the only one they had
They're teaching us how to use it
They're teaching us how to make it work for us
One day soon, they'll give it to us
We'll have never had a gift like it before
Will we know what to do with it?
Our gift?
Our Earth?
