‘Kay, this one needs a bit of explanation. It’s my way of expressing how empty and fake life is if you spend it trying to be someone else, someone perfect.

Notey-note: I got this inspiration for the metaphor in this poem whilst watching a brother’s (veeeeeeeeeeeeeery boring) school play. Whilst my eyes blurred as I drifted into slumber =.=, I started to see what appeared to be floating masks and sheets detached ahead of the actors’ bodies. Give it a try next time you’re at a school play, you’ll be amazed how the time flies (in comparison)!

Spotlight

When the spotlight

Falls on you,

What is it we will see?

A porcelain mask,

A snow white sheet.

They mean nothing to me.

Hiding behind

Painted guise,

The world is unaware.

But drop your mask,

And lose your sheet,

You would find nothing there.
