What I see when I look at thee
Are cold eyes hard and pale
Almond orbs of frost
The guise of souls so weak and frail
And I see that you are lost
What I see when I look at thee
Are ruby lips that curl
In a desperate attempt to smile
But for me your mystery unfurls
And I see your heart's defile
What I see when I look at thee
Is one who's seen the light
You know I know just how it feels
To wake up in the night
And realize nothing's real
What I see when I look at thee
Is what I see in me.
Author's Note: I got the line "What I see when I look at thee" stuck in my head one day and I felt compelled to write a poem with it. Thus, this was born. I had originally intended for it to be written in free verse but I decided what the hell, I'll make it rhyme even though it doesn't have anything that even remotely resembles meter.
