The Song

In the dark, dark night, the city night;

In the air a soft, soft noise.

Delicate, there, just barely there,

And heard by the ears of the heart.

By the cold, cold heart, the heart that sleeps,

Though it slowly, slowly thaws.

Opens its eyes, finds its voice,

And the whisper grows to a song.

A song, a song, a million voices strong,

Fills the dark, dark night.

Swells and soars on the wind of change,

Bearing its message of peace.

A message of peace, of peace and hope,

That rises, it rises beyond

And transcends the dark indifference of night,

City night that melts into dawn.
