A/N- Here it is, chapter 6, I hope you like it. Anyways, I just wanted to thank Grunge Muffin for all her reviews, it's really nice to know that people out there are reading and like my story. So thanks, and go read her work, because it's really good.
"Anais!" Called Axel.
"Hmm?" Anais turned her head towards were the tall Vampire was running.
"We have a problem, Erin and Ramses, they're helping the humans now, the United States made peace with their magical community."
Anais stood up, brushing her long straight dark red hair off of her face. "Ax, don't worry, this fits even better than having devil capture them through the police force, they'll come over to Europe, and then we get them, they'll fall straight into our hands." She gave a smile, flashing a smile.
"But, but, Devil's not going to go for this, he wanted the glory of capturing them." He sat down flustered,
Anais sat on the desk, letting her dark hair fall over her left shoulder. "Stop calling him Devil, his name, is Demetri, and he will do, as he is told, I want Flora's secret. And I refuse to stop at anything to get it. Don't you want the secret to?"
"Of course, of course I do." Axel stuttered.
"So Ax, stop being an idiot." Anais growled, before pouncing off the desk and walking out of the room, she was almost out the door when she turned around and seemed to fly in a split second back to Axel. She lifted one perfectly manicured hand and slapped him, the sound echoing throughout the large room. "That'll teach you." She smiled. Then she left the room. She picked up the phone right outside the room, and picked up the phone. She quickly dialed Demetri's number.
"Hello." He picked up the phone.
"Hey hun, its Anais, there's been a rather large change in plans." She said her voice sultry.
"Oh?" He sounded skeptical.
"Yes, your job I'm afraid is over in the United States, come back here I want you home by next week. The plan now, is that you will capture them over here."
"Why have there been changes made?" He asked.
"Because of the proposition that was passed." Anais answered.
"I hate them, I swear I hate them." He sounded angry.
"Who Erin and Ramses, we all do Demetri, but we will watch them fall, after we find Flora's Secret, using them that is." She gave a laugh.
"Sometimes mother I worry for your sanity." Demetri said seriously.
"My son, I wonder for mine often too. I'll see you next week." She hung up the phone. She pushed her hair off her face, giving a soft smile, her sharp canines cut into her lip, she licked the blood off her lip. Everything was going to be perfect. She walked down the hall, her tall stilettos hitting the stone roughly and evenly.
Dy walked into the hanger, she pulled at the hem of her dark green jacket. Her plane was parked within it. She ran a hand over the bottom, leaning against it. She flipped open the finger pad. Pressing her right thumb against the pad. It flashed green before lighting up. The fiberglass cover of the cockpit opened up and a ladder unfolded from the side of the tiny compact plane. Dy climbed in.
"General. This is Menady, asking for clearance to take off." She spoke into the radio.
"What is your purpose?" Came the General's voice.
"Pleasure ride." She answered.
"Clearance granted."
Dy drove the plane out of the hanger. She turned onto the runway. Setting the plane into motion, it sped up, and within ten feet, was off the ground. Dy pushed the small plane into gear, and it leaped higher into the air, flying vertically straight up. Once high enough she steadied the plane. And gave a whoop as she drove it forwards in a series of barrel rolls and loops in the sky. She had always loved the thrill flying gave her, it was exhilarating and gave her time to think, to be alone. She twirled the plane through the air. Thoughts of Den ran through her mind. Weather or not she could trust him, had her father still been alive he would have never let her date him. He would've told her that Den only considered her some tramp from the military, some rich girl who could get him money for drugs. But then again, there was the Den she knew. The one who could make her laugh, make her smile. It was of no matter, why was she worrying about this. It was her life, her decisions. She had all the time in the world to learn to trust Den, and at least she wasn't to attached yet.
She turned the plane towards the runway. Pushing the downwards on the throttle and landing cleanly. She parked the plane in the hanger. Opening the cockpit and climbing out of the plane.
"Dy," She turned around it was the General.
"General, hi." She leaned against the plane.
"Dy, are you ok with the magical community helping us?" He twisted his fingers nervously.
"Yes, why not, do you have a problem with it." She narrowed her gaze.
"I don't trust them." He answered, "What's to say they aren't simply out to… to destroy us all?"
"I trust them." Den said, "I've talked to them. You saw how they saved lives last night, you saw, I was there, you were there, we both witnessed them helping us. Them rebuilding the tower, and saving the lives of people that would have died with our medicine. Besides they've helped before, and look how world war III turned out. We won that one." Dy gave a smile.
"How did you know?" He stuttered.
"General Aaron, there is nothing you can keep from the best hacker in military history. So why bother trying." Dy cocked her head.
"Your father was a great hacker Menady, your talent is so far unproven."
"I'm his daughter, I acquired his talent. My talent has been proven, I'm just to busy flying to prove it as often as you would like. General, it was great chatting. I would trust the magical community was I you. I'll see you later." She left the hanger.
Her phone rang from her pocket. She pulled it out of her faded, ripped up jeans.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Hey chica, how's it going?" Den asked.
"Good I just finished flying, I missed you last night." She grinned.
"Damn the watch tower for falling, trying to take you away from me."
"Aw, how sweet, so boy, do I get to see you tonight?"
"Can you meet me at the Empire State plaza in 15 minutes?" He asked.
"Yes, I'll see you seen then I suppose." Dy said, unlocking her small forest green convertible.
"Ok, bye in that case."
"Bye." She ended the call, sticking the phone back into her pocket.
The car started up, and she drove off towards the Empire State.
"Ramses!" Erin called, running down the pier towards were Dana and I were sitting. We were looking out on the Hudson river, which was a blue color tonight, as we leaned against one of the wooden posts of the pier.
"Yeah?" I turned to look at her. "Aren't you supposed to be with Damien? Its full moon."
"He's an asshole." She announced.
"Oh? What did he d o." Erin's relationship problems were always humorous. Most often they had to do with a guy saying one wrong thing, smelling wrong, or having a hair out of place that annoyed her.
"He was wearing old spice! You know I can't stand old spice! I know he did it
just to annoy me.
"Erin!" I'm sure he just forgot.
"No!" He didn't, he's evil, bad. Old spice is bad. So what are we talking about?" Erin asked.
"Last night, and how the plan was received by the general population." I answered.
"How was it received?" Erin asked.
"Surprisingly well. The west coast is all for it. But they're always been liberal. The Midwest is having some problems with it because of all the Christians who think that magic is to be destroyed because anyone who comes in contact with it is damned. They'll get over it soon enough when they see that the people you healed do not turn into deformed beings." Dana laughed.
"Religion desperately needs to disappear, would solve so many problems." I muttered.
"If there was no religion, people would find something to argue about." Erin answered.
"Like what cheese?" I asked.
"Sure why not!" Erin smiled. "Why do you like brie? Brie I bad its all about the cheddar, I challenge you to a duel because you like brie!" She laughed. "Why the hell did he have to wear old spice?"
"Erin only you, would argue about cheese." I said, pulling my knees up to my chest.
"You didn't answer my question." Erin said.
"Erin, tomorrow I order you to go see Damien and apologize. You cannot get mad at a man for forgetting one of your dislikes." I gripped her shoulders.
"Fine, fine, be that way. Love you hun! I shall talk to you later. I'm going home." She disappeared.
"Erin and her men. Her stories always make me want to bust my ass laughing. Unfortunately she's quite serious, and if I start laughing she gets mad. So how did the police department react to the plan, as well as all the laws you've been breaking?" I asked.
"Better than I had expected. The magical control department has now doubled as taking care of the magic part of this war, and I'm in charge of that too now. I do although have to write up a statement on why it was ok for me to break those laws. They aren't mad at me, they just need to go through on procedure." She gave a sigh.
"Its only writing, at least you aren't being suspended or anything."
"True, they can't suspend me right now. They need me, I'm the only one who has direct communication with the magical community. The props of dating a vampire." She snuggled closer to me.
"Oh and is that the only one?" I asked.
"Sure why not." She leaped up to her feet, and started running down the dock.
"I'm going to get you for that." I jumped to my feet and ran after her. She shrieked and jumped over the gate, I propelled myself over, and kept running after her. I caught her halfway down the block. Hugging her close. I let her catch her breath before beginning to tickle her. She convulsed, laughing.
"Stop, stop." She gasped, laughing. I complied. Hugging here against me, there was an odd twinkle in her eye.
"What are you planning." I asked.
"Nothing just thinking about how incredibly delicious you look right now. Your hair is halfway covering your face, making you look mysterious. And that smile," She grinned. "I just want to drag you into the bedroom, what do you think of being tied up?" She asked. Or we could try out that vampirism thing." She gave a laugh.
"I'm not into the kinky stuff so sorry." I laughed.
"Aw, damn! Neither am I. Mark used to love it, I couldn't stand it he used to tie me up and use hot wax, hot wax is hot."
"Dana! The idea of that man naked is disturbing, can we switch the subject?"
She collapsed against me laughing. "Ha it worked."
"Was this your plan?" I asked.
"Perhaps, perhaps." She looked up at me. "Aw, you look so sad." She pulled my chin down and kissed me quickly. I linked my arm with hers and we walked down the street.
Zeler jumped out of the car, closing the door behind him and locking it. He looked around the area as if cautious of something around him. He then pulled out a small red globe. He fit it into the palm of his hand, wrapping his fingers around it and squeezing. He disappeared with a flash. He reappeared underground, next to a tall but narrow black door. He knocked three times, and then slammed his palm against the door. With a squeak of the hinges the door opened slowly.
A short man stuck his head out the door. He was obviously a wizard judging from his tall purple and blue hat. He had a round face and a short white beard. On his robes was a badge that said Dr. Pinkswaller.
"I was wondering when I was going to see you again Zeler." He smiled.
"Well, I'm only here for another treatment." Zeler answered shortly.
"But you already had one this year." The white beard quivered as Dr. Pinkswaller spoke these words. They both knew what the treatments beginning to fail meant.
"Dr. I need this right now. Its been horrible lately, now if you would please? We can look at the cause together, later."
"The question is am I making a mistake." Dr. Pinkswaller, scratched his chin and looked around thoughtfully. Zeler had a sharp intake of breath, and his body shook violently, a moment later he was calm.
"Doctor, please?" He begged his eyes desperate.
"Very well, come along." Dr. Pinkswaller led him into the next room. Zeler sat down on the couch. Dr. Pinkswaller handed Zeler his arm, Zeler pulled a switchblade out of his pocket, and sliced a small slit just bellow his elbow, and raised his mouth to it. He let the magical blood flow into his mouth, after a few minutes, he let out a shiver and released the doctor. The cut healed immediately. "Ready?" Asked Dr. Pinkswaller.
"Yes." Zeler said, and lay out on the couch. The doctor lifted his hand, letting a stream of fire engine red magic flow. It surrounded Zeler in moments and Zeler floated slowly off the couch, till he was in the middle of the room. Dr. Pinkswaller cranked his hand in a circle, and Zeler began to spin the magic coming closer and closer into him, the magic was starting to disappear as Zeler's body absorbed it. When all of it was gone, Zeler dropped to the floor with a heavy clunk.
Zeler stood up shakily, the room spun once, and then settled. He looked at Dr. Pinkswaller. "I'm ok, it worked, thank you."
"Very well Zeler, but I don't want to see you again for at least six month, unless its just a friendly visit." Dr. Pinkswaller looked tired.
"Don't worry, you wont, not if I have anything to say about it." Zeler pulled out the small red globe out of his pocket.
"Until the next time." Said Dr. Pinkswaller.
"Catch ya later." His hand tightened around the ball and he disappeared. He reappeared in an alley right next to the Empire State plaza. Den and Dy were leaned up against the wall, in a passionate embrace, but then looked up when they heard him arrive.
"Zeler, what are you doing here?" Den asked, his breath was heavy, his lips red and swollen.
"Just got here." Zeler answered nervously.
"Obviously, you, did you appear from no were?" Dy asked looking at him with an odd glare.
"Watch the attitude chica, don't speak like that if you value your boy here." Zeler's face was dark.
"Zeler, what are you talking about, what is going on, you've been hiding things, lying to me, and now you're threatening me?" Den's hand went to his belt were his knife was concealed.
"It's none of your business what goes on in my life." Zeler growled, his hand moved towards his own blade.
"Of course it is, you're my brother, you've never kept anything before." Den had left Dy against the wall, and was moving towards Zeler violently.
"And what if now I have to Den, you're my brother I need to protect you, you have no idea what's going on, and you don't need to."
"Zeler! I'm a full 24 years old, I don't need you protecting me, I've been doing fine on my own, I've spent my entire life on the streets, I've seen everything you have, I've been through just as much shit! So tell me what the hell is going on, before we end up hurting each other!" Both blades were now drawn, and they were both poised for battle.
"So stop prying!" Zeler took a step forwards.
"Den, don't!" Dy, screamed, moving forwards.
"Dy, get out of here." Den said nervously, but firmly, just before Zeler attacked. Den managed to duck his blade. He extended a leg, kicking him strongly in the shin, before, managing to slice into his arm with the knife. The battle exploded, Dy watched, terrified yet amazed as they fought. Their movements were so fast she could hardly distinguish arm from leg. Years of training had taught the brothers how to stay alive, and staying alive meant knowing how to fight. Finally Den twisted his knife deep into Zeler's arm, cutting through nerves, and muscles. Zeler stepped away, gasping in pain.
"Den get out, and if you value your life I wont see you again for a while. Only reason I'm not killing you yet, is because you're blood and I don't want to go to hell, now get out, and take your tramp with you! You only won because I was going easy."
"No, I won because I'm better." Den gripped Dy's hand. "Dy lets go." Dy, gave his hand a squeeze, she could tell he was about to fall apart. She pulled him out of the alley. And dragged him all the way until they were inside Den's apartment. There Den sank slowly onto the couch and let himself break down. His eyes filled with tears, before they started to roll steadily down his cheeks, loud sobs tore from his chest. Dy, sat next to him, pulling him into her arms, holding him close, as his body shook.
"It's going to be ok, Den, it'll be fine." She stroked his hair.
"No, Dy it wont, I'm out of the gang now, my brother hates me, my only living relative hates me! Dy what am I now? No gang, no family, nothing, and what wont he tell me, what is so horrible that he wont tell me?" Zeler threw his blade against the wall, it embedded itself deeply into the wood.
"Zeler, I don't know why he wont tell you, but he'll forgive you, he's your brother he has to."
"No, he wont, he hates me, Dy without him I'm nothing, without the gang and him I'm nothing. So I can fight well, who cares! I have no power, and the biggest gang in the city will be after my head by tomorrow morning."
"The military would have interest in you, with your hand to hand combat skills." Dy answered, trying to make him smile.
"Dy don't you get it, I've lived my whole life like this, and now, its gone, just like that, snap! I shouldn't have pried."
"I get it, I understand, but Den, listen you know who you are, you're still the same person, you can join some other gang, and sooner or later you'll make up with him. Ok?" Den nodded, but didn't look up.
"Dy, you can leave now if you want." He whispered almost afraid of what she'd do.
"Now why would I do that?" She asked.
"Did you see what I did to Zeler? I injured my own brother, badly, I stabbed him, what kind of monster am I?"
"Den he attacked first. I'm not leaving you, you can't dump me after five days, that's just not nice." Den gave a strangled gasp, and sat up straight, hugging Dy tightly, so hard she could hardly breath. Sobs racked his body, and he trembled. Dy sat rocking him back and forth. For hours, running her hands across his hair and down his back, comforting as she would a small child. For hours.
Erin's phone rang from her pocket, she was sitting on the couch alone in her apartment. A big bowl of popcorn in her lap, as she crunched the kernels thoughtfully, while watching a bad TV movie. It was 5:30 am and the sun was just about to rise, but she wasn't tired, and she was underground so it wouldn't make a diffrence.
"Hello?" She shouldered the phone while beginning to absentmindedly braid her hair.
"Hey, its Damien. Listen I'm sorry-" He began.
"You'd better be." Erin said forcefully. "No, no I'm sorry, I shouldn't have reacted that way, you don't need to be sorry."
"Ok, I have a question? Are you PMSing?" Damien asked shyly.
Erin laughed. "Nope, just picky. And if I didn't like you so much you would've gotten punched by now. You want to come over, no one else is home."
"Sure I'll be over in a few seconds." He answered. "Bye." Erin pressed end.
Damien appeared a moment later, wearing a leather jacket and faded jeans. He looked tired.
"Hey." Said Erin shyly.
"Hey." He answered, walking to the couch and giving her a tight hug.
"How was being a wolf?" She asked.
"Tiring, I was worrying about you the entire time." He answered honestly.
"Aw, I'm so sorry." Erin blushed and then giggled. "But now you know what happens when you go against my dislikes."
"What I get faced with a bitch?"
"Precisely and don't call me a bitch." Erin continued to braid a strand of her hair.
"Or what?" Asked Damien.
"You'll have to deal with a pissed off 6399 year old vampire, not recommended." She kissed his chin lightly.
"I'm older." Damien answered, biting her neck lightly.
"And I'm a vampire." Erin answered.
"Sounds promising." Damien shot back.
"I'd be careful if I were you." Erin warned, then cracked a smile and kissed him full on the lips.
"Will I ever understand you?" Asked Damien, wrapping his arms around Erin and pulling her close.
"Doubtful." Erin grinned.
"So what is this movie? And what's the plot?" Damien asked.
Erin laughed and began explaining the bad overdramatic movie.
I awoke the next night, feeling relaxed and rested, after a calm night, and a dreamless sleep. I slid out of bed and went into the shower. After a few minutes I heard a knock on the bathroom door.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Ramses, the General, he wants to meet you tonight. Its 9 now, I told him we'd be there at ten." Said Dana through the door.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" I asked, turning of the shower and stepping out, wrapping a towel around my waist, before opening the door.
"I forgot, I'm sorry." Dana answered.
"Remember next time ok?"
"I will, are you going to be ok?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'll be fine, just a bit nervous that's all." I said.
"Ok, I'm going to shower, and then you can go feed before we go meet the general I don't want you sucking his blood." She giggled, before stepping into the bathroom and locking the door behind her. I got dressed, before disappearing to go feed.
Devil took a suitcase in each hand, before pulling the hood of his cloak over his head and disappearing. He reappeared in a large marble chamber. There were tall black marble columns raising from the floor to the ceiling around the edges. There were no windows but lights were stationed all around giving off a dim orange glow. The floor was made of a forest green marble. And there leaning against one of the columns stood his mother, Anais. She was dressed in a long black skirt, knee high boots were on her feet. A black corset hugged her chest. Her nails were long and perfectly manicured, a dark blue cloak hung around her shoulders, her red hair tumbled to her waist. A small malicious smile curved on her lips, showing off her sharp, pointed canines.
"I was wondering when you were to arrive my son." She walked over to him, lifting the cloak that covered his eyes off his face, and pushing it back to reveal his bright yellow irises. "Why do you hide your eyes, they are your power source." Her voice was soft, and manipulating, she tilted Demetri's chin to look at his eyes, he shrugged her off.
"I don't want to play your games anymore mother, tell me what I have to do and then don't bother me." He pulled his cloak back over his head.
"Very well if you want it that way. Follow me." She turned around, walking towards the doors at the back of a chamber. She lifted her arm and the doors swung open.
"Still into the flashy special effects I see." Demetri said sourly.
"Some of us appreciate our power." Anais answered. As she led him into a smaller room, the walls were made of the same black marble, the floor was covered in a thick royal blue carpet. A large oak desk sat, a small silver laptop sat, open, the screen giving off a white light with contrasted with the dim yellow ones that were glowing from the ceiling. Once the door was closed, Demetri threw off his cloak letting his eyes be seen. Anais had a sharp intake of breath, those eyes had always scared her. They were so unnatural, so eerie.
"And some of us don't." Demetri answered.
"Stop giving me the attitude, I'm your mother, I wont stand for it." Anais sat down on the desk, and using magic, pulled up a chair for Demetri. He sat down.
"So what's the deal, mother." He asked spitefully.
"The deal is, we will take Erin and Ramses hostage when they come to Europe to fight the war."
"And where do I fit in."
"You." Said Anais, pointing at his forehead, "will sit here and do nothing, I don't want you under my skin."
"You need me mother, I know how to fight hand to hand, so do they, you on the other hand do not."
"I can deal on my own. Now get out of my sight and go to your room, your baggage has already been brought there."
"Lovely to see you too mother," Damien disappeared. When he arrived in his room he punched the wooden wall with all his strength, causing a large dent to appear. "After 5000 years she's still a bitch." He growled, before beginning to unpack his belongings.
Dana led me into a small office. A tall balding man stood in front of the desk. "General, this is Ramses Demiller, the leader of this plan." Said Dana, nudging me forwards.
"Nice to meet you Ramses." The general shook my hand nervously.
"You too." I answered.
"Sit down, both of you." The general sat behind his desk and Dana and I took the two armchairs that sat in front of it.
"So Ramses, what is your um, motive behind choosing to help the human population."
"This is our world to, as much as certain races refuse to believe it." I answered.
"Well can't you live without humans?" Asked the general, when he talked his eyebrows went up making him look angry.
"Well no, us Vampires especially need humans to survive."
"So you're keeping us alive so you can later kill us?" The general growled, and his glare was almost harsh enough to scare me.
"Not at all, didn't you watch the TV broadcast? I explained why we killed in there."
"Very well. What are your plans for the military boosts?"
"Dana, you want to take this question, you've talked to Dy more about what could be done." I nodded towards Dana.
"Yes, um we're planning on setting flying charms on the planes so that engine failure will not longer be a problem, not only that the planes will be able to fly faster. Dy and I were also planning on enlarging the missile carriers, so that they hold more, but are not actually bigger. We are also making the fuel tanks capable of holding more, without physically enlarging them." Said Dana.
"How is that physically possible, by the laws of physics-"
"General, this is magic, not physics." I stated,
"Good point, good point. What else are you planning on doing?" Asked the general.
"Well," I started. "We were planning on magically boosting the nuclear weaponry so that it can break through any building, even the ones that are supposedly nuclear proof. By setting up magical nuclear shields around all of the US troops, and the US camps, we would not be affected by the explosions. The land troops would be given extra speed, and the guns and tanks would be able to aim magically. Also worry no more about injuries, we plan to have several hundred fully trained healers taking care of all the injuries. People will heal at least six times at fast, and the ones who would normally not survive, will find themselves walking within days." I could see that the general was beginning to trust me.
"So you're serious about this."
"Quite," I answered. "The United States means as much to you as it does to the magical community."
"Good, so when do you begin?" He asked, placing his hands on the table and leaning forwards excitedly.
"Well, that depends, do you want the military done first, or do you want the United States rebuilt?" I asked, leaning back in my chair and crossing my arms across my chest.
"Can both be done simultaneously?" He asked hopefully.
"It's possible, I admited."
"Well then do both."
"Your troops, they'll need training for the new weaponry, also I don't recommend many humans being around while we boost the military, humans tend not to react well to things that they do not understand."
"I will have to be there, but I can promise you that no one else will be allowed to watch as the adjustments are made. As for the training, we will talk about it at a later date."
"Well you have to understand, its essential, if they don't know how to handle the magic correctly, your troops will blow themselves up, they'll die, its-" I was cut off.
"Mr. Demiller, you must understand, I can't just let anyone train my troops."
"I understand that, but it would be me training them, along with my friend Erin, Dy would take care of the wings, after we train her, and the street gangs-"
"The street gangs! I will have nothing to do with those outlaws!" He roared.
"Sir, please understand, they can fight hand to hand combat better then anyone I have ever met. You must trust our judgment. I have been on this earth for more than 6000 years, I've seen Alexander the great in battle, I've watched as Octavian conquered the known world. I watched the crusades, I saw Catherine the great and her army, I saw Napoleon, trust me when I make military calls, you could ignore my advice and be crushed by Europe, or you could follow what the ones with more experience have to say, and take my advice, and I can promise you a victory."
"And if I follow your directions and we loose then what?" He asked, his mouth was twisted in a smile that I didn't trust.
"It wont happen." I answered confidently.
"Are you willing to bet your life on that?" He asked.
"Yes." I answered.
"Ramses, don't bet your life." Dana muttered so only I could hear it.
'It's the only way he's going to trust me." I answered straight into her mind. I could tell she wasn't happy with the idea, but she wasn't about to argue.
"Very well, if we loose, then I kill you, you have full control to train the troops as you would like, and do what adjustments are needed, but I will watch over the adjustments and I want to see proof that this is all working. Do we have a deal?" He held out his hand.
"We do," I shook his hand, I felt him flinch when his hand came in contact with my stark white skin, and as the warmth of his flesh was replaced with the coldness of my hand. He looked terrified. Vampires weren't always cold, but emotions were expressed in body temperature, when we were angry we'd be cold, the warmer we were the better the mood. "We'll be on our way in that case." I said. "Dana do you have to stay or can you come home?" I asked.
"Dana, take the night off." Said the general, we have enough people on patrol already tonight." The general was still staring at me with an cold look in his eyes. He didn't trust me. I bit my tongue to control my anger.
"Dana lets go, hold on." I was in the mood to scare the general a bit. Dana gripped my arm and we both disappeared. I heard the general's sharp intake of breath before reappearing at the Empire state plaza. There the members of Damned angels stood around, they looked relaxed, but I could tell they were on edge, ready for attack. In the corner I saw Zeler, the right arm of his shirt was soaked in blood, I left Dana were she was standing and ran over to him.
"Zeler!" I taped his left shoulder. "What happened?"
"Ramses, can you heal this? Please?" His face was unguarded, he looked half his age, face twisted into a painful grimace.
"Yes, but what happened?" I asked again, as I placed my hands on his injured arm, healing over the skin.
"I got into a fight." He answered, he was hiding something, but he wasn't allowing me to get into his mind, he was shielded somehow, although I had yet to figure out how.
I set repaired his torn veins and muscles quickening his body's healing functions. "Who'd you fight with, I know you're hiding something."
"Don't pry that's what he did!" Zeler growled, after I removed my hands off of his arm. And I managed to catch one word through the barrier that he had around his mind, and that was Den.
"You fought with Den?" I couldn't keep my jaw from dropping open.
"How did you know?" His brown eyes questioned me.
"You forget I can read minds." I answered.
"Damn magic!" He leaned his head against the wall.
"Now tell me what happened." I ordered.
"Can we go somewhere private?" He asked.
"Yes, were to?" I asked.
"Follow me." Was his only answer. He walked back into the alley, to a large stone, he pulled out a small key and fit it into a small keyhole that he managed to find in what looked like a completely smooth rock. A door swung open and he lead me down a dark hallway, to a large stone chamber. Inside was a bed, and several doors that I could only assume lead to other rooms. The place was filled with magic, more magic then some portions of the underground.
"Where are we?" I asked.
"This is were I live." Zeler answered, only Den's ever been down here." He looked at my face. "You can feel the magic." He stated. I nodded my head.
"So what happened?" I asked.
"Well it's a rather long story, that cannot be repeated to anyone, for reasons that will become apparent once I finish it."
"Your secret is safe with me." I answered.
"Ok, I was part of an experiment, an experiment to give humans immortality and magical powers. I was recruited for this last year when I was in France, by a dark hair vampire by the name of Axel, he told me he could give me magical powers, and immortality without any side effects. Well he lied, I forgot everything, I woke up with absolutely no knowledge, and powers that I could not control. They started training us, to fight, teaching us how to use our powers. I could tell they were disappointed by the fact that we had no memory. Our powers were erratic, they'd work one day, and refuse to work the next, and sometime randomly, we'd have bursts of it. Slowly the others in my group began to disappear. I knew that something was going on, so I tried to escape. I succeeded, and I ran into a man named James Pinkswaller. He's a wizard, and a doctor. He sensed what had happened to me, and told me that he could give me back my memory if I was willing to give up most of my magical powers, and my immortality. I was more then willing to do this. I went through the process but part of it meant giving me vampire blood. I awoke dizzy and thirsty for blood, but I remembered, everything."
A sick feeling was starting to manifest itself in my stomach. "Was there a red head? A vampire, was she training you? Ever?"
"Let me finish. I am not fully healed, I can use magical items, for example, Dr. Pinkswaller gave me a small red orb, I can use it to transport myself anywhere, I can also as I'm sure you've already noticed, shield my mind. Until recently once a year I'd have to go see Dr. Pinkswaller for a treatment, because my powers would come back, uncontrollable, and very, very powerful. Well recently, its been every six months. I just had one today. I reappeared into an alley, were Den and Dy were, they started prying at what had happened. I got angry, I have a quick temper, to quick, and I was already short, worried about the treatments beginning to fail. Oh damn! What did I do? He's the best hand to hand combater I've ever seen. Well I attacked him, he won, when he got my arm, as you saw."
"I have a question for you, before we talk about what to do with Den, was one of the people who trained you a red headed vampire that goes by the name of Anais?" My stomach clenched with nervous anxiety.
"We saw someone who fit that description once, she entered the room, asked Axel if everything was going as planned, he said yes, and then she left."
"Shit!" I punched a wall, the loud thud echoed through the otherwise silent chamber.
"Ramses, what am I supposed to do, about Den?" Zeler asked.
"Forgive him?" I suggested.
"No! He shouldn't have pried, he challenged my authority, besides he wouldn't forgive me at any rate."
"And you shouldn't have attacked him. He would forgive you, I know he would."
"Listen, Ramses, maybe you don't know how things work out here on the streets, but no one challenges the leader's authority. And if they do, they're out, or dead. Den's just lucky he's a better fighter, otherwise that's what he would be right now, dead."
"Zeler, one thing I do know, is don't give up on your blood relatives, or your best friends. I don't care about your gang hierarchy, we need both you and Den in this deal, and if you two are unwilling to work together that will be a problem."
"That's all you care about isn't it? Your thing, that your plan works out so you can get glory!" He stood up, and pulled out his blade, in seconds I had pinned him to the ground and wrestled the knife out of his hands.
"No! I've had enough glory in my life, I'm sick of it! All I want is for both humans and the magical communities to get along. I want both of us to survive, and I don't want Anais to win."
"So this is about Anais, what is it, are you madly in love with her, and she cheated on you?" Zeler struggled against my hold, but vampire strength was stronger than the strength humans possessed.
"Nothing like that! Just, something to do with me, Erin, and my mother, Flora., Anais and Axel, are simply the antagonists of the entire deal. If I let you up do you promise not to attack me?"
"Yes." Said Zeler, I let go of his writs, sitting up. "So what is it with them? With Anais, and Axel, what did they do?"
"I can't tell you that, but listen, my advice apologize to Den, because you will have to work with him weather or not you like him, I have to be leaving now." I stood up, and turned towards the door, I pulled it open. I looked back once at Zeler, he wasn't shielding his mind anymore, and pain vibrated from him, I could feel it, so strong it almost made me collapse, so I shut the door and walked back out to the plaza.
I almost ran into a Dana who was talking to a tall man that seemed to be no older than 18.
"There you are, you girlfriend here was having a hernia." He laughed
"Was not!" Dana answered.
"Whatever you say, Den and I had a er, chat." I cracked my knuckles nervously.
"Oh?" Dana cocked and eyebrow, "what about?"
'Late.' I answered straight into her mind. She gave a little jump and nodded. "Just battle plans." I lied.
The boy gave me an odd look, his green eyes searched me, before he nodded. "Well now that you've found each other, I'll be off." He walked off, disappearing in the shadows.
"Who's he?" I inquired.
"Him, his name's Ash. Weaponry genius, knows everything there is to know about knives and guns. We were talking about how useful it would be if we could put an aiming spell on throwing knives. I went to ask you about it and you were gone."
"Sorry, Zeler was injured I had to take care of him." I answered, as we wondered around the city aimlessly.
"How'd he get injured?" Dana asked.
"Den." I answered in one word, my tone plain and monotonous.
"Wait! Hold on, what?" Dana had stopped walking and was now staring at me with and utterly baffled look.
"Den and Zeler got into a fight, Den won, Dy dragged off Den, Zeler was left injured. Nothing amazing really." I didn't feel like going into the details.
"Why did they fight?" Dana asked.
"Den supposedly challenged Zeler's authority, gang hierarchy, pretty fucked up if you ask me." I punched a concrete wall.
"I agree." Dana answered. "What did you and Zeler talk about?"
"Not a whole lot, just battle plans." I lied. I didn't want to tell anyone but Erin what Zeler had been through, with Erin's help the three of us (me, Zeler, and Erin) could pull together what was going on. Until then, it was best to keep things quite, simple and quite. I could tell Dana didn't trust me completely, but instead of saying anything she nodded, linked her arm with mine and we continued down the street.
