Everything Amuses Him*
Picking up pebbles in his barefeet-
Everything amuses him
Throwing the fishing line out into the sea-
Everything astounds him
Sitting out by the edge of the dock kicking his feet in the water
Listening to his grandfather's stories are never a bother
Walking out along the sand
Having tried never to understand
Wanting to just enjoy all that surrounds him
Diving into the lake for a quick swim
Coming up out of the water to dry off in the sun
Being only himself, instead of trying to be like everyone
Picking up his sandles that lie out on the dock
Putting them on his feet, then picking up that shiny rock
Looking at that worm wiggle puts a smile on his face
Everything amuses him in this wonderful place
He's an eight-year-old child with naught on his mind
Except to enjoy life for all of his time
