Author’s Note:  Ok, this is a long story.  For English, we had to write poems, and I was lacking inspiration, so I wrote this poem from one of my characters in the story The Gift of Love’s point of view.  In case you’ve read it, it is from Sara’s point of view about her daughter, Shelly.  If you haven’t, it really shouldn’t matter much.  Anyway, enjoy!

When First We Met…

When first we met

I held you.

And you looked up at me

Bright eyes open wide.

When first I saw you

I knew.

When first we met

I loved you

From that first moment,

As I held you

In my arms.

When first I held you

I knew.

When first we met

I held your hand.

Your tiny fingers

Wrapped around my own.

When first I touched you

I knew.

When first we met

I kissed your cheek

And you smiled at me.

You had been waiting all this time

And I had been waiting, too.

When first I met you

I knew.

When first we met

I cried a little

Tears of joy.

For the first day I met you

Was the best day

Of my life.
