Chapter 1
Crime Scene!!
"Fingerprint and shoe type?" it had been a long day for Lisa Walsh, First with the Stephenson investigation and now this. Lisa was a forensic pathologist. She knew what she wanted and went after it. She was 21 and had a degree in criminology and psychology. She finished high school early and had a jump start at college which ended up earning her an early graduation. "Nike Airs" she told them as she extended her hand for her fingerprint to be tested. "Alright Lisa, you can go into the crime scene now." Lisa walked over to her work partner Hayden Richmen. "What've we got?" she asked him as he followed her around the room while she observed. "19 year old male, white-Caucasian, 5'7, could be suicide." Lisa clicked a pen against her teeth as she surveyed the scene. "Cause of death?" "So far unknown, we're scanning the house for any sign of a murder device." She walked over and stopped by the body. "Hmm.no blood, no sign of struggle, Bring in a medical examiner and the toxicologists, I wouldn't assume it was anything until we've examined all possibilities." Hayden watched Lisa as she moved. She was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a dark blue blouse with her hair tied back in a loose pony tail. She moved fluidly and with confidence. "Hayden? Hello, keep your eyes off of me and focus here for 2 seconds please." She teased him. Hayden and Lisa had been working together for the past year and a half that Lisa had been with them. They got along real well. He teased her she teased him they had fun. But their relationship never went beyond. He laughed then turned to follow her. "Lisa! The toxicologist is here." A man yelled from the doorway. "Good send him back here" Lisa walked around the house scanning it for any other useful information. A few hours passed before the scene was cleaned p and Lisa could go home. "Hey Lisa, could I get a ride back home with you, Jesse left leaving me without a ride." Lisa smiled at him. "Sure, hop in." "So what's it look like to you?" he asked her as the silence lingered. "I don't know yet.looks like anything at the moment. But it doesn't appear to be a homicide, there was no break and entry, no sign of struggle, and no blood or murder device, could be just another teen suicide. I intend to go look around again tomorrow, care to join me?" "sure, we could double check the house and see if there was any empty prescription bottles etc. anything that would relate it to be a teen suicide." "I hope so, after just finishing with the Stephenson case I don't want to jump right into another full on investigation. It'll be better if we could just writ it off as a suicide and be done with it." "Yeah I agree, you need to sleep, you hardly slept this past couple of weeks while working on that case. It would be good for you." She looked over at him. "Thank you for your concern but I'm used to it, it's what I do Hayden." He laughed.
Lisa was finally relaxed as she propped up on the couch with the remote in her hands flipping through the channels on TV, the phone rang. Lisa jumped up to get it. "Hello?" "Lisa? Hey its Hayden.I got the report from the toxicologist, he had an unusually high drug dosage in his system, it was a suicide, and the boy overdosed earlier today, probably right after a stressful day at school. You and I will go back tomorrow to see if we can find the bottle he used to be sure it was a suicide. Then it's over." She sighed; glad it wouldn't lead into another full fledged investigation. She loved her work but after a stressful week of only 2 hours of sleep per night. it got pretty tiring, he would be glad for the time to relax and catch up on her sleep. "Thanks Hayden, I'll see you at the scene again tomorrow at 11:30 sharp" "I'll be there. Goodnight Lisa, get some rest." She laughed. "Yes father. good night Hayden." She hung up.
11:30 the following morning
"Good morning Lisa," Hayden greeted her when she stepped from her car with a cup of coffee and a bear claw (cream filled pastry) they were her favorite he knew. She had overslept and he knew she wouldn't have had time to grab a coffee or something to eat so he had brought her something to munch on. She smiled thank you before taking the offered mug and pastry. "Over slept Lisa?" he asked. She tried to yawn. "Sleep never felt so good, let's put it that way.now let's get busy." She walked inside the house and began to look around. He smiled as he watched her. All fun and games one minute and the next she was focused and in control of the situation. At 21 she was the youngest forensic pathologist on the team but she was also one of the best. "He was found here?" she asked. Hayden looked around and nodded. "Alright, he was found here." Lisa placed a red sticker on the place he was found. "Let's suppose he wanted to lie down on his bed and die comfortably, he drugs could've taken affect quickly and he could've passed out here before he reached his room which I'd assume by the look of it is here." She pointed to the farthest room down the hall. "Of course the drugs don't kick in that fast.the school is only a minute walk from here. He could have taken the drugs there right before he left and then come home to lie down but collapsed before he could reach his room." Hayden shook his head in disbelief. Hayden was 23 and had been in the profession for about 2 years but he had never caught on as fast as she could. She amazed him with her quick thinking and logic. It made sense. Lisa picked up his backpack and rummaged through it. "What are you looking for?" Hayden asked. "A letter to his parents, a suicide letter majority of kids has one." She flipped through his notebooks and wrinkled papers. She flipped through his last notebook and found what she was looking for. "Yes, I was right, here's the letter he wrote to his parents before he assumedly overdosed. Let's take this into the office and write up a report. We can mark this off as a suicide and call the case closed." She told him as she took the letter and stood up. He smiled. "You are definitely in the right profession Lisa, you're amazing." Hayden told her. "Thanks, now let's go. I don't intend to spend my day off sitting at a crime scene when I can call it quits and go home and get back to sleep." He teased. They laughed then drove off to write up the report and close the case.
