Absence

A September day we began to talk
And each day since you have been on my mind
Slowly silence grew and ended in shock
I found I knew all that there was to find
A December day we had to let go
Of what we once loved and come to cherish
Our hands are now warm and our hearts are cold
Without desire's breath, the fire did perish
Thereafter I searched to find where it died
But only to learn that the flame still burned
Another chance we decided to try
A mid-February day love returned
So now I know and no longer wonder
That absence does make the heart grow fonder
