I was asleep when I found myself waking up in alarm, my head jerking back. The papers from my desk rustled from the movement and fell to the floor.
"Hm? ... Fell asleep again... This is, what? The third night?" I mumbled as I bent over in my seat, collecting typed reports and a rough draft for a story that I was working on. I wasn't aware of the noise--I thought I woke up from moving in my sleep. I shrugged to myself, thinking that it was good that I did so. I wasn't willing to have a stiff neck in the morning.
I decided to go to my bedroom when I finally heard it--scuffling, murmurs... followed by a shout. I felt my eyes narrowing as I made myself listen. It was barely audible, but the noise was coming from outside my window.
"Whoa Kay... Now what...?" I whispered as I found myself peeking through the blinds, trying to make my eyes get accustomed to the streetlight below. Once I found myself focused, I noticed two guys below; one cringing on the ground while the other loomed over him. From what I could see, the one who had 'the control' wore a black outfit while his victim wore casual clothing. Upon closer inspection I became aware that the man who was down had a face full of cuts and bruises while his clothing was torn at some places.
My eyes widened as I watched on, realizing that something was not right. The scene below was not the usual mugging I see everyday but something more grotesque... More dark... My mind was yelling, telling me to pick up my phone and call the police than watch like some idiot. Shaking, I reached for the phone at my desk and started dialing 9-1-1 when a quick movement caught my eye. The one standing was holding something that reflected the light but before I could figure out what it was he became a blur and then--
I felt myself go numb as the body jerked up before flopping onto the ground... As the man in black wiped the blood from his sword and sheathed it, turning his back on the corpse.
"Oh...God..." I murmured, frozen at the blinds. "He... He..." Before I could finish, the guy scanned his surroundings...and then looked up to where I was. I choked from fear as I jumped from the window, stumbling back. With all my might I made myself think that I'm safe... That nothing's wrong...
It was hopeless. I knew that things would never be the same... Especially since he, whoever he was, saw me. He knows that I saw everything...

"I did what you asked." I said as I looked at the face of the malevolent human in front of me. His name was Jefri Monkins, former Army-General of The Shin Sin's Force. I looked at the former hero of many, now the secret mastermind of a treacherous plan. He was tall man near six feet; he weighed more than I because of all those muscles. His hair was a light auburn color in a crew cut, and dark brown eyes that raised fear in the weak. There wasn't a single strand of facial hair present on the man's face. Being out of the army is easier than taking the army out of you.
"Thanks Till, your service as always is appreciated." Jefri gave me a devilish grin.
"You talk like we're still war buddies, rather than friends." I gave a fake laugh, so disgusted by his actions.
"You know we are friends forever, where would I be without you? Where would this be without you?" He moved his arms across the dilapidated building they were currently in. The building was actually an abandoned warehouse, which was stored with the Army's weapons. It was a building only Jefri knew about, and he had secretly stole weapons over his illustrious career as General. He always wanted to end the current government, so he had been preparing for it all his life. I still don't know what his final purpose is; maybe he might do a good thing for once. The ShinSin government did need to be removed, and maybe Jefri was the right person. the hell am I kidding? He wants to be a tyrannical ruler! His greed was more sadistic than his nature.
"You mean my slaying of the innocent." I stared at him, forgetting the thoughts that were going through my head.
"You are still knit picking at that. I told you that killing a few for the sake of not going to send you to hell." I am already in hell, I thought to myself.
"How many more, tonight was my thirteenth one."
"Only a few more, your kills are getting popular with the media. They are calling this new serial killer "The Slayer." He laughed in a way that felt like he was putting me down. What I wouldn't give to cut off his head.
"Did anyone see you?" He turned around staring into my eyes.
"Do they ever?" I asked with a mocking tone.
"Don't get smart soldier."
"Shut up." I walked off leaving him to fume over my new disrespect to his authority. One day he will want to kill I'd be waiting. I walked out of the door, and started to make way to the most recent kill I did. Someone did see me, and I will find out how much.
Running across the streets, jumping rooftop to rooftop in the urban forest I called home.I realized how dark the night was. No stars, no moon..it was an empty night. That's funny. it was the same way when I first met Jefri. I finally arrived to the rooftop where the person was. There were no cops there, meaning that the person did not call. Maybe they didn't see anything at all. I didn't want to take any chances. I looked over the edge and saw the lifeless body on the ground. Poor guy, he didn't deserve to die. Oh 's . I saw the open window, that's weird. Usually someone who witnesses a murder, they would close their window. I jumped off the edge and grabbed the windowsill while I was in the air. I climbed into the room and was face to face with a .

I was leaning against the wall as I sat on the floor, spacing out...
...I mean, you don't see a murder everyday of your life, right? Especially one that just took place beneath your friggin' window!
"Okay, okay... Breathe..." I took in a breath, held it, and then slowly exhaled, closing my eyes. Good, I thought to myself. Now think. You don't want to sound like a babbling fool on the phone...
Speaking of the phone, the black hand piece was still in my hand, gripped tightly. I frowned to myself, remembering how I froze up.
"Idiot... Instead of using common sense, you just decided to watch the whole dern thing like it was some matinee..." After that said, I shook my head and bit on my lower lip. No use berating yourself--time to go on with it. Now lets see... What do I remember about the guy...
Um, I'm aware that he's tall...somewhere around six feet... Lean, average build but toned...
Yeah, you've noticed that, didn't you? A nasty little voice said, making me go,"Ha, of course I noticed... Have eyes, will see..." Great, I'm talking to myself. I sighed as I stared at the window.
What else do I rememb-- Before I could finish, an image unfolded itself in my head, showing his profile... And then those eyes... Were they gray...or silver? I forgot, but all I could remember was how they just arrest you... And how they remind you of danger, like the glint off a knife that's exposed.
Just thinking about it made me shiver as I hoped to myself that he didn't see me. Suddenly, I noticed the window being opened and I got up, walking over to it.
"My, I didn't remember it being--erk..." Before I could get any closer, a shadow loomed before it until it got in and materialized into a guy.
The one who killed...

The girl saw me and dropped the phone onto the hard wood floor. The thud echoed across the four walls of the neat and tidy room. It was a modest room, and it looked to be a dorm. It is probably the dorm building for the nearby college, I thought to myself. The girl fell to the floor and crawled to a corner. My eyes had adjusted to the lamp's light in the room, and now I could clearly see the girl. She was at least 5'5, and didn't look heavy or skinny. Her dark brown hair was to her ears; just enough to barely cover her hazel eyes.
" You make a move for that phone, and I will kill you." The girl whimpered and stared at my sword. I grabbed the hilt of the blade, and tried to make a scary face. I surveyed the surroundings and saw that there wasn't a roommate in this room. I looked at the girl again. Not bad.
"Don't make me use this, just listen to I will think about sparing your life." I laughed inside thinking that I could have been such a great actor.
"Please .please don't kill me." This girl was on the verge of sobbing.
"I won't if its not needed. Answer this, did you see anything tonight out of the ordinary?" After saying that I won't kill her, the girl got more courageous.
"Other than that dead ." She tried to talk firmly, but her voice was still quivering. I unsheathed my sword and brought the point right to her face.
"Think you are funny do you." She was now on the verge of heart failure, and I laughed out loud. I pulled my sword back up to me and stuck my tongue out.
"I think I am." I said with a smirk. The girl froze and was speechless. Gawking at me, I showed off my blade. It was a nice sword, and it fitted my body type. It was a long and slender made sword, with enough speed and strength. The handle was slim and black with a white stone in the middle of both sides. The blade's color was silver all around with a black streak going across the middle of both sides. It was a nice touch, I thought.
"This is my . Don't worry it doesn't bite, just cuts." I hate when I am obnoxious.
"That's nice." She picked herself up, but kept as much distance as she could. If it were possible, she would have seeped through the off-white painted walls.
"By the way, I came to make some things sure. If you tell anyone what you saw, I will kill everyone else in the dorm. Am I clear?" I looked at her, and felt bad for business is business.
"Yes." Wow, that was said with utter calmness.
"Agreed than we are. What is your name?"
"Ina Za-"
"No need for last names. So you keep your mouth shut, and everyone lives. I give you my word."
"Thank you I guess." She said relaxing a little. I smiled and walked to the window sill.
"Being a slayer doesn't mean I have to act like one."
