Yes, the poetry is mine, but I borrowed a quote from "The Secret of Roan Inish". And, in all fairness, I dedicate this poem to Jen, whose torrid break-up provided inspiration. I only hope that things work out for ya, Jen.

Broken on the Shores

I see you stare across the sea

Eyes upon a distant point

I wish I could take your pain away

But you keep looking to the past

The east is the future and the west, the past

So you look 'cross the western sea

The sun is rising in the east

If you'd only take the time to look

You see the western shore from where you stand

Nothing is there but broken shells

You know this, but continue to look

And see only echoes of yesterday

The water seems to beckon to you

And I fear that you'll walk in

Attempting to get past that western shore

You'll find only darkness in your path

Your eyes may drift to the east

But the west begs attention

The sun will always rise in the east

And forever will it set in the west

Your eyes see the sunset

The end of another day

If only you would turn

And see the beginning instead
