The moon is new; the night is dark; the stars obscured by cloud
The quiet seeps; the tension builds; the fear is sweet but loud.
A black cat creeps with liquid stealth a lengthy step ahead
As her black witch stalks fast behind, her visage spawning dread.
Melinda paced into her haunt and quickly got to work.
She had to beautify herself ere she began to lurk.
She donned the soot-black cloak for which a witch is always known.
She screeched a screech and whined a whine in wicked warning tones.
Melinda's cat in tight-clenched hand, she mounted up her broom
And jetted off into the clear black night's imagined gloom.
The autumn mood and season's smells filled dark night with their scents.
The pumpkin air and crispy hint of winter brewed suspense.
The fiery mouths of chilly caves illuminate the dark
A dragon loomed behind his fiendish, hot, bright, exhaled spark
His diamond eyes and jeweled front all glittered with their gold.
Ferindo flew to the huge feast, the fixed affair of old.
A vampire woke and bared his dark and wide, deep ink-pool eyes
His ugly glass-face shatters at his rough good-morning sighs.
Svendik Glipp has pasty white and flour-painted skin
Milky lips are chapped above his stiff and chiseled chin.
Midnight hair stays smooth upon his high and hardened brow
To match the wood he marches to, leaving his coffin now.
A roaring fire of heightened flames leaps nimbly to the sky
An eerie dark surrounds the light and tricks the gazing eye
To watchful spies the clearing here seemed blank; but now, behold
The fire which here burned so dark had flames of deathly cold.
The empty devil's clearing hid among the sea of trees
The ghostly spirits hurried bout in Hallow's chilling breeze.
The host and hostess decorate their haven for the night
The bright adornments sparkle in the dark new moon's midnight.
How had they enhanced their home for that cool evening's dark?
A lightning veil breathed glitter, shimmering with colored sparks.
Beautiful auroras danced round black trees' gnarled arms
Which for the night were sporting ancient carvings; painted charms.
The dance floors ringed with cruel spikes dyed thick and rusty reds.
Upon the sticks are mounted skinless skulls and severed heads.
The guests, they soon arrive, and then the music starts to play
A breathy choir of voices haunts the sound waves for that day.
The snacks were slowly snacked on by the witches, wraiths, and ghosts.
The vampires and the phantoms spoke with the light-hearted hosts.
Ferindo, struck, admired all the floating sheets of light
And added his own fire to the bright and starry night.
Svendik bowed before Melinda, taking up her hand
And whirling her around to the loud cacophonic band
Their silhouettes posed perfect and cast shadows on the wall
Of villagers awakened by the music from the ball
They quaked in fear of goings on outside their fragile homes
And at the chorus shivered in their deepest strongest bones
But still they danced, the spirits, here to celebrate their night
To deck their hearts with mirth and fill the human towns with fright.
Around the pumpkins, 'neath the stars, and through the fallen leaves
The creatures lurk on this one night, on this All Hallows Eve.
