Keanu's Lover

Chapter 1

(11/23/04)

Keanu Ananta was 15 years old when she found out. 15 years old when she received her notice, the notice from another world that would take her on an adventure unlike any other. But I'm really jumping ahead of myself. I'm Silvi, it's my job to tell Keanu's story, I guess that would make me her biographer. Keanu created me, a very long time ago. So, I guess you wouldn't be reading this unless you want to read the story of Keanu's lover, not listen to me talk forever. So here's how it all began…

It had started out very much like any other day, the sun was shining, birds were chirping, and 14 year old Keanu Ananta, was, as she generally was, completely ignoring it. It was in her bedroom, where this whole messy affaire began, on this bright Sunday morning. Keanu was oblivious to the cheerful morning, as she sat at her computer, the window shades closed and the lights turned off, her fingers moved quickly in perfect rhythm across the keyboard. Her story was coming together nicely by now, although Keanu really wanted to finish it before the school year ended, this was not exactly what was happening. Here she was, 14 years old, two weeks from the end of eighth grade, and only on page two hundred and thirty-two. She paused and went back, her vivid light blue eyes scanning the previously written paragraph. She growled when she realized that the couple had just broken up, this wasn't how it was supposed to be going. This wasn't how she had planned it out the night before. Sighing she dropped her head into her hands. Why couldn't she ever keep control over the way her stories went? Allanie's Choice had been her third attempt at the perfect teenage novel, and her lead character had just made the wrong choice. What kind of example would that set for New York's teen population? She stood from her desk chair, and walked over to her bedroom door, Maybe Aaron would know what she should do to repair her blunder. Keanu had been determined to keep this book seriously non-suicidal, now that didn't look avoidable. Running a comb through her dark brown hair, and grabbing jacket, she left the house, and completely ignoring her mother's plea for warning before her daughter left the house each day. Once outside Keanu took out her Cell Phone and dialed Aaron's number.

"Hello?" her best friend's voice sounded from the other end of the wireless connection.

"Hey" she replied, beginning to pace, "do me a favor and meet me downtown in half an hour."

"Sure thing Keia." Aaron assured her, by use of the old nickname.

Keanu smiled, she loved it when Aaron called her Keia. Closing her cell phone, she headed toward downtown. Her spirits were already beginning to lift. Maybe Aaron could help her save Allanie after all.

"So what you're saying is that I should have someone come along and help her get over Darien?" Keanu repeated so she could make sure she had heard right.

"No." Aaron told her bluntly. "What I said was, that you should create some sort of distraction so that she can get over him, on her own."

Keanu grinned; she loved making Aaron repeat himself. It made him so cute when he got that annoyed little glint in his eyes.

"Do you think that Jack would be a big enough distraction?"

Aaron sighed lightly and shook his head slightly.

"Keia, you come up with some of the most interesting characters. I think Jack could distract a heard of wile elephants from trampling an acorn, if he wanted."

Keanu smiled again.

"Yeah, you're probably right. Wanna go catch a movie?"

Aaron nodded and the two set off.

"So what'd you think of it?" Keanu asked him as they exited the theater for Matrix Reloaded.

"I think that, despite the fact that he's invincible, that Neo could actually yank a light pole out of the ground." He stated mater-o-factly. "And Neo could have used more guns."

Keanu blinked.

"Neo didn't use any guns."

"My point exactly." Aaron grinned at the bewildered look on her face.

Keanu knew then that no matter how hard she tried, she would never understand him.

"So," he began, "do you think you're ready to go home tackle that book yet?"

Keanu nodded vigorously.

"Definitely!" she assured him.

After having arrived back home, Keanu went back to her computer, and began once again to type.

When Allanie arrived home, she collapsed onto her bed. This was too much for any 16-year-old girl to have to deal with, no matter what. She buried her face into her pillow and sobbed for about five minutes before the phone rang.

"H-hello?" she whimpered, fighting back the sobs until she found out who was on the other line.

"Allanie?" the voice asked hesitantly. It was Jack. "Allanie, are you okay?"

"N-no, you asshole!" she stammered tearfully. Regret immediately came over her. "Oh Jack! I'm sorry- I…" she broke down and between the sobs, explained to Jack what had happened between her and Darien. "A-and I told him I loved him, and he said 'oh shit'! That's it! I tell him I love him, and he cusses at me!"

"If he made you cry, then he's not worth it. Trust me Allanie, I've been down that road, it's not fun, but it's not the end either!" Jack soothed calmly.

Allanie calmed down a little, and glared at the phone.

"I really did love him Jack…I really did…he doesn't love me back, what do I do now?" she whispered. "What do I do now?"

Keanu stopped typing suddenly. Now that was better, her story was back on track. Pausing to ponder, she wondered if she should create a triangle romance, by bring Jack and Darien into the picture to fight over Allanie. It would make a great ending, when by battling over her, they both destroy the qualities that had caused her to like them, thus causing her to give up both boys, which was, of course, the practical thing to do. Smirking, Keanu went back to her book.

There was silence from the other end of the phone.

"Allanie, I don't want you to get hurt." Jack's voice was soft and serene. "Do you know why I don't want you to get hurt?"

Allanie paused to think.

"Because I'm your friend?" she asked innocently.

"Well yes, you are my friend, but there's more to it than just that." He paused, to add to the dramatic mood of the phone call. "I love you Allanie Smith."

Keanu stopped writing. That seemed like the perfect place to end the chapter. She moved her mouse up to the top of the screen and clicked the 'save' button, watching as the word processor saved her document. Glancing at the clock she noticed that it was only 2:30. Opening up the Internet window she went to her favorite chat room. Scanning through the users that were currently in the chat room, she felt the corners of her mouth curve up. Ah, perfect, he was back. Signing on, she entered the chat and joined into the conversation.

That night, even though she was not at her computer, Keanu's mind was still working on her novel. Now that Aaron had helped her to keep Allanie alive, the gears were turning to figure out what should happen next to her 16-year-old character's complicated love life. Snuggling down into her soft sheets, Keanu let her sub-conscious do the dirty work for her.
