I hold out my hand
Smiling,
Inviting,
Come to me little one
I call out silently
Won't you come?
A small bird flies
Out of the bush
Out of protection
And cover
Into danger
For a seed
A bit of food
He alights upon
My hand
I look at him
And wish to stroke
The delicate feathers
He cocks his head
And looks at me
His bright eyes
Understand
I take a breath
And wish
O little one
Let me fly
Upon your wings
Let me see
Through your eyes
Let me,
For one second,
Become carefree
All I want
Is to grow wings
And fly
This hurtful world
Traps us
Our emotions run
Deeper than the waters
How I wish
To become
Once again
Naïve
Innocent
Pure
Simple
The bird whistles
Curious,
Wondering
Where did my thoughts
Take me
O little one
If only you knew
I smile sadly
And watch the bird
Accept my gift
And fly
Even now
Although my feet remain
Firmly on the ground
I soar.
