Memories

Memories of days long gone,
They don't seem that way now.
So very fresh in my mind.

A smiling, laughing face.
What had I done that time?
The feel of a not-so-clean-shaven face,
rubbing against my own.
A goat's kiss, as he used to say.
A hand, creeping across the table,
trying to tickle me.
Slapping the 'spider' away.
Toast, thick with strawberry jam.
Bread, lined up on a counter.

Memories.
So simple, so vivid.
No longer quite so distant.
Locked here within my heart.
Grandfather.
Chief.
Poppy.
