Weathered

A/N~ this is a story I've been working on since July 3, 2002. My idea was inspired by my best friend who moved to Albertville last summer. It might not be as good as I had hoped, but still. PLEEZ R&R!!! Tell me what you think, good, bad, the honest truth. Thanx ;)

Prologue~ the story begins when Sara and her best friend Joey are on a cruise during their summer vacation. Everything is going well until a hurricane blows up by their ship. Then, well you'll see.

Chapter 1

"Captain! She's no going te make it!" The Scottish lookout yelled as a wave crashed over our boat hard. Rain was beating down in sheets everywhere and lightning struck all around us. Everyone was ordered to put on their life jackets. "Sara!" my mom yelled. "I'll go find her Mrs. Johnson." Joey said. He searched everywhere when finally he heard a faint noise coming from inside our cabin. "I'm trapped, Joey! Help! I'm under the bed!" Joey ran in and tried to pull me out. "Joey, what's going on out there?" I yelled. "The storm got worse out there." Another wave crashed into the boat. "Joey," I said in an oddly calm voice, "we're going to die, aren't we?" There was a silence between us. "Maybe not." Joey replied. Finally he pulled me free. "Hurry, put on your life jacket. We're probably going to crash." Joey started walking out the door like a man on death row. "Joey, wait," I said, "Joey, I want you to know something." Joey rolled his eyes. "What? Do you want to tell me the mayonnaise is in the 12th house? Well, Sara this really isn't the time." "No Joey, this is serious. I'm serious. I'm not joking around this time." You see, I'm kinda weird sometimes. But I do it on purpose. I need that sense of humor, or I would be bland all the time. One of my worst fears is being "normal". "Well what is it then, Sara?" "Joey, I just want you to know that even though we're best friends now, no matter what happens I'll never forget you. And someday, maybe even today, we'll meet up in heaven. So I guess I want to thank you. For being such a good friend. And I want to apologize for dragging you on this trip. And bringing you on a cruise trip that, well, turned your dream into a nightmare." There was another silence, more awkward than before. "Awww. Sara. What'd I tell you about all that mushy stuff?" He chuckled a bit. "I hate it, don't you know?" Then we fell into each other's arms. I cried. Suddenly, we heard a crack from below. We looked down, and then looked at each other. "Too bad we're on the bottom floor, huh?" The floor around us cracked and we fell into the water, holding each other tight. And just as we fell, my mom burst through the door. "SARA!!!" She screamed. She ran to the hole and jumped in after us. Me and Joey were still holding each other tight. The ocean rushed over us. The icy cold water chilled our bones. Shadows of fish flickered in and out below us. Then, a terrible ripping sound echoed across the ocean. The boat was falling apart. "Hmm. it's funny. We were just on a luxury cruise boat, a must for any 14 year old, and now we're about to die. It's true what they say then. Life is short. I'll miss you, Joey. See you on the other side." "See you on the other side then, Sara."
