That One Day

I planned to have a normal 16th birthday party, like everyone else. The day started out fine, everything was ready, the balloons, decorations, and a gorgeous ice-cream cake with little frosting just how I like it. All it needed was for the guests to arrive, which they should in about 30 min. But that didn’t happen until it seemed an eternity. I was enjoying the nice spring air in the backyard when a ball of powder fluttered near my face. Thinking it was a bee I swatted it away. A somewhat rude noise came from the direction of the supposed to be bee. Turning around to look, I realized the ball of fluff was a fairy. Somewhat like the kind you hear in fairy tales. With four semi-transparent wings attached to a small body, and small delicate petals for clothes.

At first I thought, Dang, I must be dreaming or something! But then the little thing started to yell at me in a very annoyed tone and in a foreign language. Two seconds later the garden around me dissolved while the fairy waved her small arms frantically throwing bits of yellow powder all around her and screaming at the same time. First I saw nothing but swirls of colors all around me. Then the colors dissolved again to reveal fairyland! Except this place wasn’t what you expected. Where there were supposed to be nice cozy houses there was chaos and destruction. The higher-class fairies that owned larger houses were still trying to put out the blazing fires that were eating away at the structure of their home.

Suddenly I noticed that I could understand what the fairies around me were saying and that not only have I been transported to a new world that I have shrunk in the process. By the time I absorbed in all the things around me the fairy that brought me here and another were already having a conversation.

“…. Is it her, Kira? Have you found the one that was destined to save us? The one in the prophecy…”

“ Don’t sound so anxious, Rashik. We don’t know if this human will even come through for us…”

So her name’s Kira eh? “Excuse me,” I said out of curiosity, “why is there so much havoc? Isn’t this supposed to be fairyland? You know like happiness and stuff?”

“You think just because we’re fairies that we have super magic and all will be okay with just a wave of the hand?” says a very irritated Kira.

“Well, no, but….” I said very quietly so I wouldn’t fell so stupid.
