The young woman felt the water at her feet. It was the water that woke her up. She opened her eyes and saw unfamilar surroundings. She was looking at dunes of wet sand and skattered blades of grass growing up dimly lit by the rising sun behind her. She was cold and wet and covered in sand. She pulled herself to a sitting position and dusted some sand off. She began to look around for something familiar, anything familiar. Behind her was the large body of water- a lake? an ocean?- and in front of her, for almost 100 yards was white sand before a wooden wall that streched up for about 7 feet. Further along the wall was a stair case leading to the top of the wall. She could see the tips of buildings from her spot on the beach.

She tried to think of how she got to this place. She couldn't remember. She tried to think of where she was before ending up on the beach. She couldn't remember. She began to try and remeber anything. She couldn't even remember her own name.

The woman stood up and dusted even more sand off of her body. She was about to walk over to the stairs to see if there was anyone who could tell her where she was, when shouts came from farther down the beach to her left. She saw several men running, but as they got closer, it was clear that the one in the lead was running from the others. The man running from the others was dressed all in black and had a red bookbag slung over his left shoulder. The men chasing him were in uniform, and

the woman recognized them as police officers. "Why do I know who they are, but I don't know who I am?" she asked herself.

As the man dressed in black got closer to her, he yelled out to her. "Hey, you!"

"M-me?" she stuttered

"Yeah, you! You're gonna be my hostage."

"Hostage?!"

He stopped running and spun around to face the police. He grabbed her around the waist with his left arm, and held a knife that she didn't even see him pull out to her throat. "Alright," he yelled to the police, "this here is-" he stopped yelling and whispered to her, "What's your name?"

"I don't know," the woman said timidly.

"You don't know?" he whispered in disbelief, and then went back to yelling, "This is my hostage! And, uh, if you don't back off, well then, uh, no more hostage!" He was stumbling over his words, and didn't seem like he would go through with his threats, but the police believed him and the woman was scared to death. He slowly began walking backwards, keeping her between himself and the cops. Once he got to the stairs, he let go of the woman and began running up. Thats when the police opened fire. The woman screamed as bullets were hitting the sand and wall around her. She ran up the stairs after him to get away. She saw the man who took her hostage climbing into the drivers side of a black Oldsmobile. She didn't know what to do, so she hopped into the passenger side of the car just as he was about to drive away.

The man looked at her with angered confusion, "What do you think you are doing!? Are you insane woman!?"

She looked at him with fear, "They were shooting at me! What do you want me to do!? Stand there!?"

He grunted to himself and turned his attention back to driving away from the police. He turned sharply to the left, throwing the girl into the door, wacking her head against the window in the process.

"What the heck are you doing!?" The girl yelled, now with a headache, to the man driving. The police began to fire on the vehicle the two are in, and the girl instantly ducked her head when the back window shattered as a bullet penatrated it. The man turned to her and yelled, "Trying not to get us both killed, you moron!"

"I'm not a moron!"

"You can't even remember your own name!"

"At least I.." The girl looked toward the windsheild and screams seeing a drop dead ahead, "Watch out!"

"Huh?" The man looked ahead, "HOLY..!" He tried to veer to avoid the drop, but caused the vehicle to go into a roll, going over the edge.
