Blood trickled down from her lips to her chin; taste of the red liquid on her tongue burned her mouth. Vision blurred into double as if she was drunk. All she saw was red as blood, which ran from her forehead over her one eye like a waterfall. Her walk was of a toddler taking its first steps, leaning against a wall for support. A familiar, angelic voice called out to her, her head twisted around fast to find the owner of the voice, but she couldn't see anything. Suddenly someone grabbed her right hand tightly, "Saiki, I'm here. Let's get out of here quickly." The angelic voice rang in her ears and tears ran down her face with a mixture of blood. Though she couldn't see anything at the time, her hearing and touch was fine.
He pulled her down towards the ground and gently wrapped her arms around his neck, then placed his arms underneath her legs, stood up, and ran. As he ran, she heard explosives going off behind them. Her hands and arms were slowly rolling off of his chest, "We're almost there, so try holding on, Saiki."
She looked ahead, seeing a blurred light there, and within a few minutes, they passed though it.
He slowed down his pace and walked about two or so yards, then placed the girl on the ground, and he wiped the red liquid from her eyes, forehead, and lips. She blinked a few times before her sight was clear again, and she looked up, seeing a man, who she assumed to be about a year older than herself, with brown hair that ended with spikes at his shoulders. He wore a bandana under his bangs, and a 'tail' down his back to his waist. His shirt was pure white, with extra long sleeves that draped over his fingers. It donned a v-neck, with a brown rope attaching the two sides of the 'v' together. He wore blue boot-cut jeans, and whitish color boots to fit everything together.
He leaned over her as his pink-purple crystal necklace dangled from his neck, "You ok?"
"I will be." she replied as she stared into his blue eyes. She tried to sit up, but he pushed her back down gently, saying something about her needing rest. "Why did you save me?" She asked, puzzled.
"You were in trouble, so I had to help."
"I told you to stop following me. This is my problem."
"Do you love to be a loner and to have all of this on your shoulders alone?"
She sighed and exhaled in annoyance, "No, but I don't want anyone to get hurt because of me."
"I want to help you, so if I get hurt it's my fault and problem, not yours."
He'd said that same thing to her long ago. It was what seemed to be a year or so ago, and the painful memory flashed into her head like a sore thumb, with the sound of a loud beating heart. It was when this all really began. She was just a normal warrior, and he a mystical mage. It was unusual for their types to cross paths without trying to kill one another, but it was probably because she wasn't as normal as the other warriors he'd crossed. After all, it was true, she did think differently from the others.
She saw a group of people killing an innocent bystander, and then they came after her. They were so strong, she couldn't defeat them alone, but the mage came and protected her. As he was about to leave her, he promised her that she'll see him again. Now he came to protect her again. I- I want to protect myself this time, she thought to herself.
"Why do you want to help me? Is it because you think I'm a weak little girl?"
"No, nothing like that. I have some beef with those guys too. The innocent they killed was my friend, and they captured someone I knew. I'm afraid you are my only witness to the crime, and I need to keep you alive to prove what they've done."
"So I'm like a clue, or just some piece of evidence to you."
"I don't want you to die, either."
She blinked and turned on her side with her eyes closed, "I can protect myself."
"In a few minutes, we better leave this area." He finished.
She gave up and decided to let go of the whole 'loner' act, especially since he seemed to ignore her anytime she tried to get him to leave her alone.
"They've been against our 'clan' for a long time, but one of them loves one of our members. They killed the friend that was protecting the one they wanted. Now I must get her back."
"Is she your sister?"
"No. my future wife. In our clan, we are forced to marry people by our parents."
"Do you love her?"
"Aren't you prying too far into my business?"
"Sorry."
"Well we better go now," he picked her up in his arms and portal to a town's health clinic.
"Can I help you?" asked a man.
"Can I have some healing herbs?"
The man nodded and handed him about ten herbs for about 100 gems. The young mage took the herbs, placed them into a small satchel on his side, and portaled to another town's hotel room, which seemed to his own personal room. He placed the young warrior on the bed and pulled out an herb. Placing it into a small dish, he then cut his thumb, letting the blood dribble into the dish. He then mixed and crunched the two together until they blended together, flowing like a sticky liquid.
"This might taste horrible, but it'll make you feel better."
"You mixed an herb and your blood, why?"
"A mage's blood and an herb together have special abilities," he handed her the dish and she drank it all. With amazement, the cuts and blood slowly disappeared and healed.
"Nooooooooooooooo! I'm late!" she exclaimed.
"Late for what?"
"For dinner. I'll be back in 30 mins~! ^.^ Sorry!"
"Okay." He sat down as she logged out.
"Back to reality, this sucks," she slowly took off the helmet and gloves, placing them on the computer desk. She stood up and raced out of the room, down the stairs, and not a moment later, slammed into the wall, "Itai!!"
"Saiki? Is that you?" called out her mom.
"Yes."
"About time you got off of that game."
"I'm sorry; I was having so much fun!" she entered the dining room and took a seat at the end of the table, near her older brother and younger sister. Her mom and dad sat at the other end, by her older sister and eldest brother.
"Saiki, you need to get a life away from that game of yours," said Saiki's older brother.
"Like getting some actual friends," added the eldest.
"And a boyfriend!" exclaimed her younger sister.
She just wanted them to leave her alone, and wanted to leave the room too, but she ignored them and ate her meal. After dinner, she ran back to her room and sat down in the computer chair, "Now to continue where I left off." she turned the computer on, and as she waited, she put on her game gloves and helmet. It finished loading as she completed her preperations, and she anxiously opened the game, "Log on!"
She appeared in the hotel room again and saw he was still there, "About time. Thank God they haven't found us while you were gone."
Saiki sighed, "Sorry. so what now?"
"Let's see. we can go kill some monsters for money and items, and then go to my friend's shop so we can get good armor and weapons."
"Okay."
Then they teleported to a field of monsters, she quickly ran to a dog creature and attacked it, but a foolish newbie came over trying to kill it too. "Stupid newbie! Get away!" He refused, and when the monster died, the newbie took the loot. "Grrrrrrrrrrr! I so hate newbies! !"
"Need some help, Saiki?"
"Get rid of the newbies, please?"
"I can be around you when you try to kill something and I can scare the newbies away."
"Yay! ^.^ Thanks!"
He circled around her when she was attacking something and once a newbie came near her, he looked as if he were about to attack them to scare them off. They did this for about an hour or so.
"Okay, that should be enough money for us now," he said as he teleport them to the town his friend worked in.
