Raven of Passage
By: ChocolateEclarFull summary: Raven, a 19-year-old with a tragic past, thinks she's never going to be anything but a freelance writer. But when she survives an acid ogre attack she's told she has what it takes to become a member of the Wolf Force, a team of people whose jobs are to deal with situations like the one Raven went through.
A/N: My main character and ‘narrator’ is not a Mary-Sue! So before you say she is study this prologue! She states she isn’t athletic nor does she have a ton of money! ^_^
A/N 2: Anyway, enjoy.
Prologue

- From American Heritage® Dictionary
If someone had told me I was going to be something more than a freelance writer, I would have said, “You’re raving!” This was because, aside from composing stories, I didn’t think I was good at anything!
First of all, in a family of people six feet tall and above, I was a midget. I was five feet and three inches tall at the age of nineteen and rather insecure about it.
I lived in a small apartment all alone living off the little money I could get publishing adventure tales. I had run away from home when I was sixteen. I had lived with my mother for all my life before that. My dad abandoned us when he discovered my mom was pregnant when she was sixteen and ever since, my mom always said, “You’re lucky I didn’t get an abortion, girl!” Lucky? Ha!
Living with my mom was a nightmare. All she ever did was nag, nag, nag, and NAG! Nothing I ever did was good enough for her and when I told her what I wanted to become, she said I was a failure. So, I ran away and never looked back.
I wasn’t athletic either. If you want to gauge just how horrid I was at sports let me just tell you gym class in elementary school was terrifying for me! I was about ten pounds over weight then and wasn’t good at running, jumping, or anything else for that matter. Now that I was living alone, I could barely pay for food so that I had the unhealthy, malnourished appearance of someone who had lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time.
My face had a gaunt, pale look to it and my hair was thick and chocolate-colored. My eyes were a deep hazel and my attire consisted of some of the cheapest clothing I could buy. All in all, I was a girl in my late teens who was always famished and ill looking.
By the time I was nineteen I had published two novels. I also had a part-time job at a diner and was taking several literature classes at a nearby college.
This trivial lifestyle would soon end though because after I survived the acid ogre, I would have many more challenges to come that would give me a newfound respect for myself.
