My Father's Pen

I read the words he scripted
several times again,
frowning at the stanzas
that my father had once penned.

Somehow I felt uneasy,
hearing him in verse,
the voice that always pains me
so loud and harsh and terse.

Despite the lines he'd written
of love and eternity,
all I've known from his cold heart
are hate and dishonesty.
