A Tighter Grip

I swore to death all the things
You wanted me to do.
I let you take your hold over me,
Just like you wanted me to.

I'd never let you see me cry,
Knowing what you'd say.
You had all you wanted from me
And you thought I was here to stay.

But tell me, what happens when they find out?
When I can't keep my mouth shut?
What happens when you lose your cool,
Or someone sees a bruise or cut?

You can't hold me forever,
And I refuse to stay.
A week, a year, you can't keep me here.
I just hope I can live through today.
