The Dissolving Highway

Counting cars:
one
two
miles.

I press the air
forward, fists,
knuckles tight-dangle-
snap,
dragging the road
toward the flat of my back.

Pavement heat waves
draw me upward.
The heaving body dissipates
(propulsion)
the soul encompasses:
I have seen God;
I have seen the universe.
