Mime: This piece is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Santa
Monica car crash caused by 86-year-old Russell Weller, who drove for three
blocks down a Farmer's Market on Wednesday, July 16, 2003. Eight people
were immediately killed, while around 45 were injured. Two more people died
in the hospital yesterday. Knowing that I live only about an hour and a
half's drive away from the place where this accident occurred, it really
freaked me out, so I thought I'd do a haiku poem for them. (I'm pretty sure
I got the syllables right) Enjoy!

"One Man's Mistake"
You walked out one day
To go grocery shopping-
An innocent chore

Unexpectedly
Among the fruit stands you hear
A loud screech of wheels

A scream soon follows-
Cries of terror and anguish
Quickly pierce the air

You run towards the noise
Your heart beating rapidly-
Panic floods your mind

At the scene of the crime
Bodies are strewn everywhere-
Blood is raining too

Through the crowds you push
Straining to see the source of
Such a wild mess

Your eyes meet a man
Who's 86 years of age
Sitting in a car

The police arrive
The masses of people part-
They take him away

An ambulance comes
Doctors help all the injured
Onto a stretcher

You can only stare
As a horror movie plays-
Realization dawns

Families were torn
Lives were needlessly destroyed
By one man's mistake
