Phone Book Fun
Have you ever opened a phone book?
Not to find a number but just to take a look?
Scanning down the pages looking at the names,
Looking at the difference, counting ones the same.
Flipping through the yellows, skipping through the white,
Pages just keep on turning until the one that’s ‘right’.
Pointing at the names, fingering the numbers too,
Looking at the digits and wondering what to do.
Pressing oh so softly, fiddling with the keys,
Each time becoming smoother soon filled with an ease.
You place the phone against your ear as it begins to ring.
You begin to fear what the voice on the other end will bring.
The voice answers tired and almost hard to hear,
Your ready yourself to make your voice sincere,
And begin to ask if so-and-so is there.
But the message that you bring seems a little err.
Their refrigerator’s running, but still is quite content
So they ask you to repeat the message that you just sent.
It seems that they were wrong they just don’t understand,
Now it seems that you are just looking for the band?
This person not quite right, they’ve been knocked upside the head,
They haven’t understood a single thing you’ve said.
He answered his phone, expecting a sales call
But, now is trying to decipher something he doesn’t know at all.
The other line begins to bounce and give a slighted quake
Somehow it seems, you made a big mistake,
When you took the time to call this house, to pull a little prank.
It doesn’t matter anymore, now the other end is dead, it’s blank.
