Separated

I will never fully comprehend,

The pain that the families endured.

They are the sufferers against this plot,

Against a nation we thought was secured.

I didn’t lose a friend

I didn’t live through the pain

But on that Tuesday morning

I watched an act so inane

It brought our nation together

Against a single man

We fought back and grew stronger

Something outside of his plan

One nation, one people

Of the red, white and blue

Finally joined in unity

In an act that we thought was true

I was a couple hundred miles away

Watching on in safety’s arms

Away from the destruction and the dust

Removed from the clutches of harm.

But I will forever remember

The people I was with and the location where I was

And the surreal feeling that I was removed

When America went on pause
