What’s in a Name?
What does it matter what you’re addressed by?
Is there something that a name implies?
Does it make you the person you are?
Does it prevent your dreams from going far?
If you’re named ‘Sarah’, ‘Mary’, ‘Lucy’, or ‘Jane’
Does that mean you’re destined to a life that’s plain?
Or are you supposed to be smart
If your name is ‘Albert’, ‘Copernicus’, or ‘Bart’?
What is the importance of ‘Mary Jane’ or ‘Lucy Lou”?
Why does it matter whose named ‘Nick’ or ‘Drew”?
Does the name define oneself and give the world a
name plate?
Or is it a collaboration of letters that could design
our fate?
If you’re named ‘Casey’, ‘Greg’, or ‘Chase’
Are you expected to be in the race?
Do names like ‘Chief’ lead the pack?
While people named ‘Rita’ just sit back?
Are people named ‘Billy’ and ‘Kimmy’ young at heart?
Do people with the names of ‘Romeo’ or ‘Juliet’ play
the part?
Are there people, who are musically inclined,
Just because they’re named ‘Beethoven’ or
‘Hammerstein’?
So I ask you what is in a name.
Would you really be different if it weren’t the same?
Do you owe it you’re fortune, or give it the blame?
Really, just tell me, what’s in a name?
