Upon the earth

I stand alone

I wish that I

before had known

what comes ahead:

this empty place

I see around

confusing space

I could give up

I could turn back

I’m carrying

a heavy sack

It’s weighted down

with broken dreams

and fallen hopes

and silent screams

and crushing doubts

what might have been?

but most of all

the fear within

I’ve kept it locked

a hidden cry

I am so lost

I start to die

I’ve gone so deep

below the floor

I blindly reach

and grasp a door

I take a breath

and go on through

I see ahead

expanse of blue

I found myself

upon this track

with road in front

and road in back

I turn my face

behind me lies

an open road

but barren skies

the road behind:

an easy walk

but overhead

clouds menace, stalk

an easy walk!

but, with a sigh,

I know there is

no chance to fly

the road before

has narrow path

along the sides

are rocky wrath

but looking up

I see above

a chance for peace

a single dove

I realize it

comes down to this:

the danger road

or hopelessness

should I turn back

into the known

or forge ahead

just me, alone?

I’ve come this far

I turn my eyes

to narrow road

with open skies

you’ll never know

unless you try

I took a chance

and now, I fly
