Author's Note: Thanks to my friend Shannon for reading over this form me
and helping me find other words for "Mask".
Masks
We go along
In our tasks
All the while
Wearing masks
Forced to conform
Forced to conceal
Whatever we think
Whatever we feel
If our true thoughts
Were to be rejected
Through our facade
We'd be rejected.
Those who reject
Their Fellow man
Who cares what they think?
Who gives a damn!
Answer this Question
I put forth to ask
Why must we all
Be forced in a mask?
I refuse
To ignore my heart
To wear a disguise
And play a Part
I am who I am
My spirit is free
I won't wear a Mask
I am just me.
I don't care what you think
Or what you do
You'll just have to accept
I'm different from you
I admit that I'm odd
And that I'm strange
But I will not conform
I will not change
I am who I am
Day after Day
Refusing to change
Because of what other say
Try all you want
Talk till you're blue
You'll just have to accept
That I'm not just like you
I accept that you're you
And just as long
As you leave me be
Then I have no qualm
I'm hard headed and stubborn
Unmoving as stone
So accept me for me
Or leave me alone
I don't mind you being you
I'll cut you some slack
But if you push
I will push back.
If people don't like you
Or if they don't agree
They make you wear masks
Be what they want you to be
No one can change me
To be like another
It goes in one ear
And right out the other
I am what I am
I don't care if you agree
It doesn't matter
I'll still just be me
And if you push me
If you attack
I'll return the favor
And I will hit back.
I will coexist
That's not a hard task
But I refuse
To wear a mask
