Insincere Saints

Capitulus I: A Booming Start

"Hello, welcome on board. I hope you enjoy your flight." The stewardess, whose smile came right out of a toothpaste commercial, beamed at him as if she was actually really happy to see him. 'Hello, welcome on board. I have had too many face-lifts, so now my face is stuck this way.' Kain grinned at her slyly, causing her to blush. Women were such suckers for his smile, he thought as he walked past the stewardess and to his seat by the window. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't interested in women at all. He sure hoped there were cute men in Japan.

Other people entered the plane and walked past his seat. They all looked at him, a strained expression on their face as if they were forced to look his way. Kain shifted uncomfortably when several people narrowed their eyes at him, disbelieving looks on their faces. It was as if they could not believe what they saw. He should have been used to these stares by now, but he still had difficulty ignoring it when someone stared at him like he was some strange animal in a zoo. Sure, he was pretty, but not _that_ pretty.

His hair was short and an odd golden color. His eyes were the same color as his hair and his pupils were slitted, like a cat's. He had a slim, almost girlish figure and that was accentuated by the fancy clothes his mother made him wear. His mother always looked at him lovingly when they went out to buy new clothes, and said he looked like an angel. Kain knew he was anything but an angel. When he was with his friends, he dressed in a manner that would give his mother a heart attack. He would wear black, gothic clothes, that were ripped and torn and decorated with all kinds of belts and zippers. He would also wear eyeliner and black eyeshadow to accentuate his golden eyes, and numerous earrings in his left ear. He wouldn't go so far as to put on lipstick, because he had the habit of running his tongue over his dry lips and lipstick tasted icky.

"Excuse bag is on my seat." Kain looked up. A young man with long, stark white hair and red eyes was standing next to his seat, with a sly smile on his face. Kain's mouth fell open when his eyes fell on the sinfully tight black leather catsuit the man was wearing underneath a black leather trenchcoat. The catsuit was criss-crossed by zippers and chains and seemed to have been glued to the young man's skin, showing off every inch of his slender body. He looked so good in the catsuit it made Kain's mouth water.

Blushing when he realized he was staring, Kain quickly took his bag from the seat next to his and put it on the floor between his legs. The white haired man grinned and took off his coat. "Thanks," he said, as he sat down and folded his coat.

"You're welcome," Kain mumbled. He tried to ignore the warm feeling in his belly and lower regions, when the albino beside him grinned. "I... I'm Kain," he said, holding out a trembling hand. The albino seemed a little surprised when hearing his name, and his smile faltered a little. Then he took Kain's hand and shook it, once again grinning slyly. "My name's Alister," he said. "Call me Alice and I'll blow out your kneecaps." He winked and crossed one leg over the other. Kain couldn't help noticing how long and slender Alister's legs were.

"So, Kain, why are you going to Japan?" Alister asked. Kain reached into his bag and pulled out a folded letter. "I got this letter three weeks ago," he said. "Apparently my parents had enrolled me to this school in Japan. I had wanted to leave home anyway, so I wasn't really angry that they had enrolled me without asking for my opinion first." Alister took the letter and unfolded it. "Ah, I see you're going to Veritas," he said. "I go there too."

"Really?" Kain asked enthusiastically. The school couldn't be that bad if it had pretty boys like Alister. "Is it a nice school?" Alister chuckled and handed him back the letter. "Kain, there is no such thing as a nice school," he said. "But I guess Veritas is okay."

"I hope it's not a school only rich people go to," Kain said as he put the letter back in his bag. "My last school really sucked. It was filled with guys who thought they were better than the kids whose parents didn't buy them a horse for their birthday. I really hated it there." He looked out of the small round window. "I was glad that I was going to Japan, because in a place no one knows me, without my parents, I can finally be myself."

There was a flash of anger and bloodlust in Alister's eyes, but Kain couldn't see it because he was still looking out the window. Then the blond turned around and smiled at Alister, who quickly schooled his features. "I'm not very good at speaking Japanese," Kain said, "but isn't Veritas Latin for the truth? Why is a school called Truth?" Alister smiled grimly and shrugged. "Because it's a place where you can be yourself," he said. "Your true self... But let's not talk about Veritas anymore; let's talk about you."

So for the next few hours Kain was forced to talk about himself, which he didn't feel comfortable about. Alister asked him if he had a girlfriend or boyfriend, if he had a good relationship with his parents, what he planned on doing after school, what he saw in the clouds as they flew through them, and how on earth he could like the food they were given by another toothpaste-commercial-stewardess. Meanwhile, Alister flirted with said stewardess and about every other female on the plane. He and Kain began to like each other a lot.

After three hours or so of talking, Kain began to feel sleepy. Before he knew it he fell asleep with his head on Alister's leather clad shoulder, and dreamed restlessly. He dreamed he was in a dark room, the only light coming from a few candles that seemed to float around him. All over the room there were strange symbols in all kinds of colors, which seemed to change every now and then. They were all over the walls and the ceiling, and when Kain looked down he saw he was sitting in a large symbol. The symbol looked like a skull with enormous fangs and ruby red eyes. Alister was also in the room. Though Kain couldn't see him, he knew the albino was standing right behind him. Kain felt a cold hand against his cheek, and then he felt Alister's lips on his ear. "Poor little Lamb of God," Alister whispered. Then he stabbed Kain in his chest with a knife decorated with jewels. Kain gasped as he felt the knife tear through his flesh, through his heart...

Kain awoke with a whimper. Where had that odd dream come from, he wondered as he looked beside him and saw Alister was missing. He leaned over Alister's seat and looked at the rest of the passengers. Most of them were asleep, but at the back of the plane a woman stood up and went to the bathroom. With a man with stark white hair and a black leather catsuit.

Kain let out a disappointed sigh and leaned back in his chair. He really liked Alister, but it seemed the albino was straight. And what was with that weird dream? He'd had dreams like that before, but usually he dreamed of an event that would take place years in the future. When he was five years old, he had dreamed of his parent's divorce, which had happened when he was twelve. Would he be killed by Alister in a couple of years? He certainly didn't think so, because it seemed like Alister thought of him as a friend. Then what could the dream mean?

Kain looked up when he heard giggling. There were two Japanese girls of his age standing beside Alister's chair. The taller one had green streaks in her short hair, the other had dyed her long hair blond. The blonde grinned at Kain. "Hello, my name is Akane," she said. "And this is my friend Nanase." She pointed at the girl with the green streaks in her hair.

"I'm Kain, pleased to meet you," Kain said. The two girls giggled. "You have no idea who we are, do you?" Nanase asked. Kain blinked. "But... you just introduced yourselves to me," he said hesitantly. Akane and Nanase gave each other a questioning look. "Are you sure it's him?" Akane asked in Japanese.

"Of course I do!" Nanase snapped. "He looks exactly like the guy in the picture Chloe showed us. Besides, there's no mistaking those eyes and feet. He's just trying to trick us into believing he's a good little human. He is one of the smartest of the lot, after all. Now guard him while I go fix the doors." Akane nodded and Nanase walked to the front of the plane.

"Excuse me, but what is going on?" Kain asked. He gasped and pressed himself against the back of his seat, when Akane suddenly pulled out a gun and pointed it at his head. "A-Akane, what are you doing?" Kain squeaked.

Akane grinned devilishly. "Oh, nothing," she said innocently. "We're just kidnapping you, so we can kill you without any witnesses." Kain paled. For a moment he considered laughing, but Akane didn't look like she was joking. Kain's eyes darted to the bathroom in the back of the plane, hoping Alister would come out and help him instead of screwing some woman he didn't know.

"Don't count on your albino friend to save you," Akane said, catching his look. "Our friend Glorene is keeping him busy with hot, steamy sex. The boy simply can't resist sex, though I think he was trying to keep Glorene distracted so she couldn't kill you. He probably thought that she couldn't hurt you if he exhausted her - which he most certainly will. I bet he never expected three assassins." She narrowed her eyes when Kain opened his mouth. "Don't you even think of calling out for Alister," she hissed, pressing the barrel of the gun against Kain's nose. "If I have to kill you here - and trust me, I'll do it if I have to - I'll just kill each and every singly person in this plane as well, because I was given orders to get rid of any eyewitness."

Kain glared at her, looking brave despite the gun pressed against his face. "Why are you doing this?" he asked softly, not wanting to wake up the slumbering passengers and get them killed for watching him being threatened. "I haven't done anything to you. I don't even know who you are!"

Akane chuckled. "You're a really good actor, you know that?" she said. "And you're cute too. Too bad you have to die." She made a short movement with the gun. "C'mon, let's go. Nanase should've fixed the doors right now." Still glaring at her, Kain stood up. "Don't bother," Akane said when Kain wanted to pick up his bag, "you're going to die, so you won't be needing that." The pure ice in her voice made Kain shudder.

Forced by the gun that Akane continuesly pressed into the small of his back, Kain walked to the front of the plane. Nanase was standing near the exit, one hand against the door. Kain threw one more hopeful glance over his shoulder, mentally trying to force the door of the bathroom to open and Alister to come out. A small part of him still remembered how good Alister looked in that catsuit, and hoped he would jump out of the bathroom on his noble steed and save Kain like a true knight in armour; but another part of him was shouting that Alister should have told Kain that there were assassins after him.

Then, as if he had heard Kain's silent plea for help, Alister came stumbling out of the bathroom. He looked a little dishevelled and there was a smear of lipstick on his pale neck, but at the moment Kain was filled with so much relief that he didn't care. Kain stretched out his hand towards the albino and cried, "Alister, help me!"

A lot of things happened then. Passengers awoke because of Kain's cry and began to shout when they saw Akane's gun. Akane shot three innocent passengers, while Nanase grabbed Kain by the scruff of his neck. Much to Kain's surprise and horror - as well as the other passengers' - Nanase opened the door. Immediately anything that wasn't nailed to the floor or secured by a seat belt was sucked out of the plane, including Kain, Akane and Nanase. The last thing Kain saw was how the woman Alister had gone to the bathroom with, was fighting with Alister as the albino tried to reach Kain.

Kain screamed as he fell through clouds, his groping hands not being able to find something to hold onto and prevent himself from falling farther. Above him he saw the plane, small objects still being sucked through the open door. He also saw Akane and Nanase, only they weren't falling: they were floating! The two girls were pushing against the door until it closed. Kain fell through a big puffy cloud and for a moment all he could see was white. Then he heard two soft 'poof's next to him, and two hands were wrapped around his waist.

"Hold on to me," he heard Nanase's voice say in his ear. Mindless in his fear of falling to his death, Kain tightly wrapped his arms around the girl's neck and pressed his face against her shoulder. He felt something soft brush against his hands. He looked up and saw that there were wings growing out of Nanase's shoulder blades - wings! "W-what the...?" Kain stuttered.

"Still acting innocent, ne?" Nanase chuckled. "No matter. We know who you are and now that we've got you, we can finally do what we've wanted to do since the creation of mankind." Before Kain could ask what exactly they wanted to do, Nanase let out a whoop of joy, spread her wings, then dived towards the ground. "Ha ha ha! What's the matter, Seraphim? You almost seem scared," she laughed. She flew up again, and then made a looping, ignoring Kain's screams of terror.

"Look, I already told you my name is Kain," Kain shouted above the wind and the sound of Nanase's wings flapping. "I don't know who you're mistaking me for, and to be quite honest: I don't care. I saw you kill three innocent people, you tried to kill me by throwing me out of a plane, and now you've sprouted wings. I am _so_ out of here!" He placed his hands against Nanase's shoulders and pushed himself away hard. Nanase let out a shriek when he slipped from her grasp and started to fall again.

Kain spread his arms and legs, wanting to feel the wind against every part of his body, stroking him like a lover. For some strange reason, he wasn't afraid he would fall to his death this time. It almost seemed natural to be flying through the air, through clouds. He closed his eyes and let out a content sigh. This was how it should be, he thought. The wind was his element and he wasn't going to let those damn Harpies get him!

A hand grabbed his wrist with brutal force and Kain was held in Akane's arms this time. The girl hissed at him through remarkably sharp teeth. "Don't ever do that again, or I'll kill you right here." Which led Kain to the question: Why hadn't they already killed him? They - apparently - could have easily thrown him out of the plane, but for some reason they had let him live and were now flying through the air with him.

Too afraid that the girls would actually kill him if he asked why they hadn't done it already, Kain kept quiet during the flight. He wondered if Akane got tired of holding him, but she never loosened her grip and her wings flapped steadily. They flew for what seemed like hours, but a quick glance at his watch told Kain they had been in the air for 'only' 45 minutes. He was just enjoying the feeling of the wind in his face, when Akane and Nanase began to descend quickly.

As the clouds became thin and the ground came closer, Kain was able to see where they were heading. He immediately recognized the bundle of islands as the country of Japan, where he had been meaning to go to. It became darker and darker as they came closer to Japan, until everywhere on the islands lights went on. And there were so many of them! Kain had never been to Las Vegas, but he had seen pictures of the city. The amount of neon lights had astounded him, but Las Vegas was a mere dot of light compared to all the lights shining in Japan.

They flew for another ten minutes. Now they were flying so low Kain could reach out and touch the tree tops as they flew over forests. There were a lot of trees in the area they were flying through, and almost no houses. Akane and Nanase dived down and flow through the trees, dodging them with practised grace. It was incredibly dark in the forest, as the even the light of the stars was blocked by the trees. When he thought he heard something howl in the distance, Kain whimpered and clutched Akane's neck.

"Stop acting like a baby," Akane scolded. "We're here."

Kain looked up and saw they were flying towards a wooden cottage that looked as if it had been abandoned for at least a century. But when Nanase landed on the ground and let out a strange yell that made the hairs on the back of Kain's neck stand on end, a light went on in the cottage and strange shadows could be seen through the windows.

Akane landed as well and unceremoniously threw Kain to the ground. "Get up," she hissed, grabbing Kain by his arm and impatiently hauling him to his feet. Kain tried to protest, but Nanase grabbed his other arm so forcefully he hissed in pain. He noticed the girls' wings were gone, as they dragged him into the cottage.

"We're heeeeeerrrrreeeee!!" Nanase shouted happily. Everyone in the room turned to look at the three who had just come in. Kain looked around and saw there were only women in the cottage, women who all looked at him like he was a tasty pastry. He swallowed loudly and took a few steps back. There were about seven women in the room, including Akane and Nanase. If they decided to attack him, which some of them wanted very much considering the murderous gleam in their eyes, he wouldn't stand a chance against them.

"If you're planning on escaping, you might as well just put a bullet through your brains," said a mocking voice. A blonde woman with green eyes approached Kain. She looked him up and down and smirked. "So, this is the Seraphim everyone wants dead. It must feel wonderful to be so loved," she chuckled evilly.

Kain's temper snapped. "Look, lady," he said through gritted teeth, "my name is Kain, not Seraphim. I have no idea who this Seraphim guy is, but I am not him. Those two," he pointed at Akane and Nanase, "have tried to kill me by throwing me out of a plane because they thought I was this Seraphim. Whatever problems you have with Seraphim, please leave me out of it. I have nothing to do with all this. I don't even know who you are. So would you please, _please_ let me go?"

The blonde raised an eyebrow at Akane. "Akane-chan, please let the boy go, would you?" she said.

"Sure thing, Chloe!" Akane said, and saluted. Kain was about to let out a sigh of relief, when Akane grabbed him by his collar and hurled him across the room. "Let's see if you still know how to fly, Seraphim!" she cackled.

Kain let out a shout when he hit the wall with a sickening sound. He fell into a chair, which was then moved to the centre of the room by two women. Kain was too dizzy to fight the women as they tied his hands behind his back, but when Chloe sat in his lap he was wide awake. "W-what are you doing?" he asked.

Chloe smirked and ran a manicured hand up his arm. "It's been a long, long time since we last met, Seraphim," she said. "I really missed you, you know. Did you miss me too?" She ignored Kain's "I don't even know you!" and continued. "We've been searching for you for a long time now, the girls and me." She looked at the other women in the room, who were all staring at her with anticipation. "In fact," Chloe continued, "we've been searching for so long I began to get a little impatient. As revenge, I won't give you the pleasure of a slow death. But first..." She leaned over until Kain felt her lips brush his own. "We're going to make a baby, Seraphim," Chloe whispered.

"I'm not Seraphim!" Kain screamed desperately, but Chloe didn't listen. Kain felt all the blood leave his face, when Chloe began to perform a striptease. She slowly removed every item of clothing, before carelessly throwing it away. Because Kain was only interested in men the sight of a female body didn't make him look twice, but he knew Chloe could get him excited. He was a teenager after all, and his hormones wrecked havoc with his body now and then.

"Get away from me!" Kain snapped when Chloe sat in his lap again, this time very naked. The girl just grinned at him and slipped a hand underneath his shirt. Kain tried to break his bonds, but the ropes around his wrists were tightly secured by complicated knots. He had no way of freeing himself. "Don't," he whimpered when Chloe pulled down the zipper of his jeans. Chloe merely raised an eyebrow at him, as her hand...

"Oh God! Don't _touch_ me!!" Kain shrieked.

A part of the roof of the cottage suddenly collapsed and came down with an enormous crash, sending a cloud of dust flying up. From the hole in the roof, a person man in black jumped down. He landed on the floor of the cottage, and began firing at the women with a machine-gun. The women screamed and ran around the room, trying to find a safe place to hide from the flying bullets.

Kain saw how a bullet hit Chloe's leg as she jumped from his lap and he screamed himself, afraid of getting hit. Chloe, still naked as the day she was born, and the other women disappeared in the cloud of smoke, but the stranger kept firing at them until the magazine was empty. Then he stood up and looked up through the hole in the roof, his figure a mere shadow against the cloud of dust. "Dear Lord, forgive me for my sins, as I forgave those who sinned," the stranger mumbled.

"H-hey," Kain said weakly. "A-are you going to untie me?" He wasn't sure whose side the stranger was on, but he did know that the strange man hadn't been firing at him. Considering what would have happened if the stranger _had_ fired at him, that was a good sign.

"So it _is_ you," the stranger said to Kain, brushing dust of the black sunglasses he wore. "I wish I could say it is good to see you, but your face brings me nothing but pain." He sighed and ran a hand through his short black hair, which was now a little grey due to the dust. "Why I of all was chosen for this is still a mystery to me, but if He thinks I am fit for it, then it is true. I am truly sorry, Seraphim," he said, as he pulled a smaller gun from his pocket and aimed between Kain's eyes.

"I'm not Seraphim! I'M NOT SERAPHIM!!" Kain shouted hysterically.

The lines around the stranger's mouth tightened. "I no longer feel guilt, for you do neither," he said. "I had hoped you would have come to your senses after so long, but it seems old habits never die. If only you would have admitted your sins, then you would have been forgiven. Goodbye, Seraphim."

Kain screamed.

A gunshot rang through the room.

To be continued...

Author's Note: I like cliffhangers. :D If this chapter made you think: "What the...?" that's okay; that was my first reaction too. But if you review, all your questions will be answered. ^_^ Eventually.
