The stars were shining with an air of superiority against the sea of black. Harper reached his hand towards the heavens trying to grasp just one of those noble lights. His pale skin and painted black nails moved in the air to the left then to the right, trying to find a weak star that would let it self be captured. His thoughts drifted to before his innocence was stolen, yet again. The summers of his youth growing up in a small town in Northern England, then of the mild winters of his teen years in London after his family moved to the large city because of his fathers death from a heart attack That was a long time ago but the memories felt as fresh as the night air.
Harper's crystal blue eyes began to cloud and a single tear rolled down his ghastly white cheek. He caught him self and cursed out loud for letting his emotions get away and show on the surface. There was nothing he could do now. His past was dead, with very one he had loved, and an unwanted future lay ahead. Harper sat up and brushed his fingers through his long raven hair. He looked towards the stars in their heavenly beds one last time before standing up and walking back to his beat-up firebird.
In the distance Harper's canine like hearing caught the sound of footsteps moving towards him. He lifted his chin a bit to sniff the air and recognized the scent to be a human boy and probably no older then 10 years of age. He wondered what a child that young would be doing out in the woods at 1 o'clock in the morning. A moment later the boy was right behind him, still the boy hadn't notice the tall man clad in black only a few short feet away. As well as sweat, Harper picked up the sent of tears and knew they were both old and new.
"What reason does a boy of your age have to be out crying alone in the woods at this hour?" Harper asked softly trying not to startle the boy into running away. The boy stopped suddenly finally aware of the tall man drifting in and out of shadow.
"Who.who are you?" the child asked a bit shaky.
"I am none of your concern," the older man answered sharply.
"Then I'm none of yours!" the boy's sudden courage and defense made Harper smile slightly.
"Do you have any family?" Harper's tone was airy and uninterested but his mind was solely focused on this small boy.
"I'm not going to tell you." Harper sighed and turned around finally facing the boy. He started to feel the beginning of his change that made him different. Different now from his past self, different from this innocent little boy and difference from this boys future, or lack there of.

The boy stood his ground but the stench of fear still lingered strongly in the brittle night air. The raven-haired man looked at the boy and smiled showing sharp fangs. He could feel the iris of his eyes change to ones of his true beast, a vampire.

The small boy stepped back upon noticing the change in the older man's appearance. "W-what are you?" the boy asked stuttering slightly. Harper laughed and leaned back against a tree trunk, casually taking in this nameless boys appearance.

The boy's hair was a mop of sandy brown and his eyes were sorrowful from pain unknown. His shirt was plan white but smeared with dirt here and there. The boy wore dirty gray shorts and once white sneakers now brown from use. Harper wondered if this little boy would be missed. If he killed him tonight would there be a search party rounded up the next morning. Or would people cruelly forget about him like so many children before him were disposed of. So many thoughts and theories of this boy's past sprung forth into his mind.

"What does it look like I am?" Harper asked plainly not letting is eyes leave his prey.

"Your not human!" the boy shouted raising his hands defensively. Harper always loved playing with his victims' minds before the final kill. It always showed who the predator was and who the prey had become. Harper pushed him self off of the tree and stepped towards the boy.

"Why would you say a thing like that, boy?" Harper asked in a falsely sweet tone.

"Get away from me!" the boy shouted again, louder this time. Harper snorted and shook his head slightly, in the dark Harper could see the boy searching for an escape route. No matter where he went Harper would follow and catch him easily. And the increasing amount of fear the boy was given off indicated this boy knew it too. He stepped forward once more and held his hands up. On his face a brutal smile was painted across his features. The boy stepped back but was stopped by a large oak tree. Fate really didn't care much about this little child it seemed. Harper's cruel laugh broke through the silence of the night. "Help someone!" the boy cried out not letting his gaze waver from the older man.

"No one is going to hear your screams. Scream all you want because you're all alone." Harper started towards the boy smiling cruelly but was stopped in mid-step by the sound of a female's voice.

"Who ever said he was alone?"
