Where Do Books Come From?
By
DragonLady of Avalon

Who knows where books come from, the wild images brought to mind? The brilliant armor, the handsome knights and fair princesses? Where do the friendly dragons come from, the unicorns that heal the pretty maidens by the light of a full moon? What fire-tinged tongue first uttered them? Where was the sorcerer born, the one who tames the griffins and rides them about the sky?

Who knows where books come from, the gentle images brought to mind? The mothers who sing to their children, the moon saying goodnight? Where do the whispered sweetnesses of softly sung lullabies come from, and what sugar-tasted mouth first uttered them? Where was the girl riding in a red hood, the one who met the teddy bears, born?

When my fingers are cramped by arthritis and my eyes behind the glass can no longer see the computer's face, will their be a girl holding my children, my fairies, dragons, aliens, elves, griffins, unicorns, pegasi, gentle tigers with innocent eyes and wild-eyed princesses with wings for flight? Will she ask herself where were they born, these children of the written word?

Will she, too, wonder where these wonderful, musty, mysterious books came from?
