The Warrior

The warrior walks a lonely path,
Sword clasped within her pale hand.
Red rain pours down from the lifeless skies,
Bloody puddles cover the barren land.

Still she walks,
Soaked with blood,
Hiding from the peaceful world,
Waiting for the chance to fight.

Wandering the path towards peace,
She must lie about her heart.
There is nothing she can do,
No hope shines within her dark eyes.

Too much blood,
Too many deaths,
There's nothing left for her,
The smell of blood fills her world.

Walking on and on,
Searching for a new reason to fight.
Her loved ones try to call her back,
Wishing for innocence regained.

She walks away from those she loved,
Not wanting them to drown in the blood of her crimes.
Her calm and steady heartbeat rises in the endless screams,
Her sword gleams with the blood of the world.

Once and innocent child,
Quiet and naive,
Now a strong warrior,
Cold and deadly.

Slicing through the hearts of others,
Retaining the blood of her victims.
Always looking back,
Always drowning in the past.

A flash of determination,
Glowing blades of light and dark.
Fighting a hopeless inner battle,
Winning with the dawn.

I wrote this after I got into the anime Rurouni Kenshin. I wrote it about a female warrior so that I could use it as the basis for a story I want to write. The story has the same title as the poem. Please review. Frozen Midnight
