A/N: Okay, a couple of things. This is another bus poem that I wrote
earlier this year, around May. I just dug it up from an old livejournal
entry to post. Please excuse the lack of capitalization. Also, the
freewrite consists of two separate poems/thoughts that are connected. Just
know about that before hand. Enjoy! R/R!

"Burbs High"
By: Midnight

sunny day
at burbs high
rays glint off cell phones
and sunglasses
distort our vision
and distract our free ears--
free
but trapped
in five-day weeks
filled with
imbecile remarks,
misunderstanding teachers,
bad cafeteria food.
we all ride the same bus,
walk the same halls,
and avoid the same bathrooms,
but we're not the same.
though free thinking
has long been
a thing of the past,
we get through
fighting and scarred.

i don't know you
but i feel you.
i watch you
(the same as you watch me),
your body pressed to
mine
in the crowded
high school halls.
i feel the heat
stirring deep in your heart
i smell the contrast
of gym class
against your strong cologne
lingering mixed and hanging
in the heavy air.
and i wonder
what you are angry about,
why are you worried?
did you pay your dealer
on time?
is your girlfriend
too needy?
how was your
math test?
my mind buzzes
with unspoken questions,
but the brief second
your skin brushes mine
is gone
and so are you,
down the hall
on this sunny day
at burbs high.

A/N: September approaches ever quickly. I hope we have a good year at our
burbs high.
