“ The last year has passed so fast.” Kelly pointed out as she and the women in her life gathered in her mother’s kitchen.

“ Yeah. Your birthday is next week, what’s the plan?” Kasey asked as she looked at Jade and Kelly.

“ I don’t know, but it can’t top last year.” Kelly said as she glanced at her sister.

“ Enough about that.” Lily said as she joined them at the table. “ I haven’t seen my girls in awhile. This lunch it to catch up. So catch me up.” she explained.

Kelly spoke first. “ Derrick is getting so big. Connor is spoiling him rotten. I’m gonna bring them by later.” she explained with a huge smile, a happy mother and wife.

“ And you were so sure you were having a girl.” Jade commented as she stirred her coffee.

“ Yeah, I want a girl. But for now Derrick is more then enough. Now enough about me and my perfect family. How’s it going with you and Scott?” Kelly asked and everyone agreed they wanted an answer.

“ It’s going great. Me in college, him working, we don’t have much time together. But I’m happy.” Jade explained. She had gotten her GED and enrolled in the local college. Scott transferred to the town police department. Now they lived together in their own apartment, not too far from Kelly’s place and Lily’s place.

“ And that’s what I wanted for you, happiness.” Lily said as she touched her daughter’s hand. Everyone moved out and now Lily had this big house to herself but she didn’t mind. Because everyone she cared about was happy and doing good in life.

“ Ok, enough about your happy news, my turn.” Kasey said to everyone with a huge smile. “ I’m getting married.” she exclaimed.

“ Whoa.” Jade said. “ To Shane right?”

“ No, to the guy now the street. Yes Shane!” Kasey said, looking at Jade with a look that said, very stupid question but all jokes.

“ I’m not one to say anything. But don’t you guys think you should wait till you’re a little older?” Kelly asked. The first one to grow serious out of the crowd, ironically.

“ We’re in love and we’ve been together for awhile. It just seems like the right time. He asked me last night and I said yes. Without thinking because I just knew it was the right choice.” Kasey explained. Her happiness glowing through her face.

“ Well then it’s the right choice. There’s no set age to fall in love and know it’s true. If you feel it in your heart, go for it.” Lily explained and not just to Kasey, to everyone.

Jade watched the three woman began to talk again. Kelly couldn’t never stay quite lately about her son. Jade smiled because she couldn’t ask for anything more. Her family was together. She finished her coffee and rose from her seat. “ You know I love talking with you guys, but I have to get going. I’ll be back later for dinner.” she explained. Every Saturday everyone gathered at Lily’s for dinner.

Jade walked to the cemetery. It’s been a couple of weeks since her last visit. She didn’t need to run over there and bare her soul anymore because it wasn’t so hard to live anymore. A year ago she thought, that’s it, this is my life till I die. She never thought she would be happy and glad to do all the normal things people talk about. Because of that she was glad she ran from home and found Scott. He gave her what no one else ever has, he let her be herself and loved her for it.

She was scared, all the time before, not anymore.

“ It’s been awhile.” Jade said as she looked down at his tomb stone. “ I always said I wish there was away I could get over you. And the way I lost you. It doesn’t hurt anymore. I still miss you but not all the time. I don’t blame myself every waking minute of the day for your death. I don’t know when it happened. When everything became ok, but it did. I hope you’re at peace. Like I finally am. I know it must sound sappy or something to say; Scott completes me. But in a away, he does. He put the light back into my life. The light you use to be. I should get going.” she placed her hand on the engraved letters then left.

Everything was pretty close to each other. It didn’t take long for Jade to walk to her and Scott’s apartment. She walked inside, everything was quit. The clock read 1:28PM. It would be awhile before Scott came home. Jade sat on the sofa, with nothing to do.

Sometimes it amazed her to just think about how well everything was going. She and Kelly were close more like best friends rather then sisters. The ways Jade always wished it was as they were children. It wasn’t overwhelming anymore to be in a room filled with family anymore, she welcomes it.

“ Hey.” Scott said as he walked inside and shut the door behind him.

“ Hey. What are you doing home so early?” Jade asked but she more then glad to see him.

Scott went and sat beside her on the sofa. “ I knew you would be here and there was nothing holding me at work. So I decided to spend time with the girl I love.” he explained as he brushed her hair away from her face.

“ I like the way you think. So what should we do with all these hours we have to ourselves?” Jade asked with a grin in place that let him know what she had in mind.

“ Since we haven’t had too much time alone. I think we have some catching up to do.” Scott simply said before he kissed her.

That day Scott told her to take a chance because they tend to pay off. That chance paid off in a big way.
