"Acknowledged." She had only minutes before finished debriefing Sub- Commander Jance.
Corek took a quick look in the mirror before she left. She stood dressed in her dark gray dress uniform, anticipating a meeting with the Council. The dress uniform was plain but was proper. Her light brown hair was brushed back and tied in a tight pony tail. She took the turns at the perpendicular hallways, seemingly without thought. Every intersection looked the same. It had only taken her a month to learn to navigate the labyrinthine corridors.
The main government building took up a one-third of the Great City. Another third was the military headquarters. The last third was made up of homes for the government workers. The government building contained the Chambers of the Great Council and a center for all government business dealing with representing the 13 different life-giving planets currently under Amaran rule.
She passed through the five checkpoints and soon found herself in front of the Meeting Hall doors, the only doors on all of Amara not automated. On either side of the double doors stood guards. They each were clad in the traditional uniforms. As she approached, the guards opened the doors, allowing her to pass. She entered a room with white, gleaming walls and floor. The ceiling was a mirror. In the back part of the room stood an elevated white marble table with seats for the four Council Women and one in the center for the Chancellor.
"Commander Corek, reporting as ordered," she stated, giving a deep bow.
"What information do you have for us?"
"It seems that what we believed to be a small group of dissidents on Trilatron, is actually a very large group. They have members in all the major cities and are gaining more everyday. Most of the population of Trilatron seems unwilling to act, but that is changing. Trying to find a way of carrying out an effective resistance against our army is the only thing holding them back. Although they lack the technology or discipline to even come close to being a match for us, there are a number of dissidents with the intelligence and determination to eventually find a way. Also, the rumors are true. There has been talk about making an alliance with the Delosians. Only the most radical freedom fighters have even suggested it, for now. However, if they can't win their independence alone and do it quickly, it is almost certain that the possibility will gain popularity."
The members of the council all started talking at once frightened by this revelation. The Delosians have come to be the only species that could ever hope to bring down the mighty Amaran Empire and the only to almost succeed.
"We can't allow that to happen," Council Woman 3 noted.
"We have to use force and put down all resistance. We can't have them making allies with the Delosians," Council Woman 2 remarked.
The Chancellor and Corek stayed calm throughout this outbreak. Within moments the Chancellor regained control of the Council.
"Don't they realize they won't be given freedom by the Delosians?" asked CW2.
"It would seem their only focus is to get the Amaran Empire off their planet," responded Corek.
"We can't allow the Trilans to make that alliance. It would give the Delosians a close base with which to attack us from." pointed out Council Woman 4.
"Not to mention the give them details on how our government and military are structured, our society's personality, and how we think," Corek added.
"How could they do that? The Trilans haven't been under our rule for long. We haven't given them any secret information," inquired Council Woman 3.
"But there is much that can be learned from looking at a species society and how it is run," Corek pointed out.
"Commander Corek. Do you have any suggestions?" inquired the Chancellor.
"Because the Trilans feel we are forcing our culture on them. If we use our military to end the rebellion, it will only escalate matters. What we need to do is make them feel as if we're giving in to their demands. Make it seem like there's less government and military while still keeping a tight hold on them."
"And how exactly do you plan to do this, Commander?" Council Woman 5 inquired.
"Simple. We deport some of our military. At the same time, we can bring in military as average citizens. This way we'll still have enough power to stay any rebellions. Their government should also be given the power to decide local deviations of minor laws while strictly enforcing our own. All the while we'll be able to track the movements of the radicals with the undercover military and find the true leaders of the resistance and get rid of them. In addition we should gradually introduce our culture and allow them to assimilate."
Everyone in the room considered what she said. No one had any immediate objections.
"We will debate the issue. You'll be notified of our decision. You're dismissed," commanded the Chancellor.
Corek bowed slightly before turning on her heal and walking away. The doors were opened for her as she walked out. The only thing left to do was wait for the decision of the Great Council and what they want done about it.
