A nail planted firmly in the surface of your heart
All because you could not find means to forgive
The stabbing sensation remained and lingered
You bitterly laugh knowing that you are to blame
Time rolled over the piece of iron in smooth waves
Other emotions too took on the job of eroding
The shiny, gray metal soon turned to a reddish sand
And a removal that was once easy was now painful
You could have pulled the nail out easily at first
But pride hindered you and rust will cut you if tried
Forgiving them would have spared you this pain
It would have prevented a nail from ever being driven
Being so possessive of that feeling, you don't let go
The cursed metal gets worn away bit by bit every second
Finally the top part of that nail falls off and is gone
Now, you can't take that nail out and you are to blame
