Eventide Escape

One day

You finally feel the need

To escape from the same old world

To which you open your eyes each morning

To which you return after each

Exhilarating new journey

Couldn’t those heavy layers

Of pain and exhaustion

Be cast aside for once

Just once

To escape confinement and buildings

Escape noise and jabbering

Which could only be interpreted

As added tiredness

To your weary ears

Your weary heart

To escape

Escape...a refreshing word

A much coveted puff of cool air

Swiftly escape into the darkness

Which swallows you up

With only a sprinkling of stars to guide you

Or rather, to make you lose your way?

Laughter finally breaks

The stillness of night

You invite someone along with you

On this trip into paradise

Someone who needs to be saved

As much as you

Collapse onto the white sand

For the sheer joy of it

You both lie on the beach

Breathing softly

Catching your breath from the sudden frolic

An invigorating scent reaches your noses

Flowers

Filling the sea air

You are children again

And simplicity is everything

No rules

No limits

No time

Only you

The ocean calls

And you come to its lapping waves

Scooping with curiousity the salty foam

As you proceed deeper

Into the revitalizing waters

A splash hits you from behind

You swivel quickly, aiming in that direction

And hear a satisfying exclamation

Which leads to a full-fledged water fight

Leaving you soaked

But unable to stop laughing

Rustling through palm leaves

The wind urges you back onto the warm beach

Where a blazing ensemble of colors is created

On the edge of the darkened sky

The last of dusk

Sadly

The timelessness is almost gone

You find

It was right to bring someone along

Someone to hold you

The right way

As the colors of darkness

Fade together
