Human Rights and Freedom.

It seems that America is a country that prides itself on being humane and supportive towards people of every creed, nationality, background and gender. While this is for the most case true, with many other countries seeming to have far more racism, crime, hate attacks and such, there is one particular group of people that seem to lack their basic rights.

Homosexuals.

This however does not come to me as a surprise. America is a Christian country. Though, many of the inhabitants are in fact not Christians, they do tend to make up quite a large proportion of the population. As we all know, the Bible frowns upon same sex relationships. This is due to the fact that God created man and woman for the sole purpose of furthering the human population. Obviously this is not possible for homosexuals and therefore they are severely disliked. However, God also says to treat your neighbour, as you would have them treat you. Surely this applies to everyone. This means every single person has the right to love who they want without being punished for it by those who do not agree.

At the moment, homosexuals are not allowed to get married. In some countries they are allowed to be united in a civil service, which entitles them to the same benefits as a normal marriage but does not technically class them as married. The real reason for this is because marriage is a Christian tradition. As previously stated, Christians frown upon homosexuals and so it is only natural that a normal marriage service cannot be used for homosexuals. However, not all those that marry are Christian. Shouldn’t homosexuals be allowed to get married using this service? Is it fair that while a group of people who get married but aren’t Christian are allowed the same rights as Christians, those that go against God by being gay aren’t?

The answer is simple. It is not fair nor is it just. You cannot chose who you love. No matter what is drilled into you during your life, one thing is always made clear. Love knows no bounds and is not judged by whom the person is but rather the content of their character. If one were able to choose whom they loved as if it were choosing what make of bread they were going to buy then it would not be what we considered love to be.

These simple basic rights that are overlooked when it comes to homosexuals are not just overlooked in America. Homosexuals lack basic rights and basic civil manners in all countries. The world is not open minded enough to accept that it is normal to be in love with someone of the same sex because love in itself is normal.

Everyone makes a big issue out of same sex relationships. They are classed as somewhat taboo. Something that ‘if we pretend they don’t exist, don’t.’ This is not the case nor will it ever be. As people become more accepting of same sex relations, they become more flaunted and why shouldn’t they? But, with this as the case, the more accepted they are, the more discrimination they receive because those few that are too narrow minded to accept love as it is become more opinionated and loud mouthed. It is simple human behaviour. They blame those that are brave enough and proud enough to say ‘I’m not ashamed of who I am’.

I am not saying you have to agree with people being gay; I am however saying you should be civil enough and humane enough to accept them and give them their basic civil rights. After all, we are all humans and we all love. Why should anyone be denied love if they find it. For what is the point to life if you do not get to sample love? What is the point of money, possessions and materialistic things if at the end of the day you have no one to share them with?

In the end, love of the same gender will never be given equal opportunities or equal rights because to some people it isn’t natural. But, if love isn’t natural in any form, what is?

A/N. I am not saying America or Christians are in anyway wrong, however I have used these as my focal point because they are universally known and help to get my point across.
