Reflections of a Pretty Face

I am the beautiful girl you love to hate
I wonder if knowing that others envy me, means I'm vain
I hear the gossip and insults that shadow me
I see the hatred in their green-eyed stares
I want to be plain
I am the beautiful girl you love to hate

I pretend with smiles and a confident stride that I am happy
I feel the pressure to remain, forever, pretty
I touch nothing, for I'm met with a cold shoulder
I worry that society's ideals cause much grievance
I cry for the envious and envied, both troubled
I am the beautiful girl you love to hate

I understand that jealousy is mankind's disposition
I say that real beauty lies within
I dream of a place past worldly prejudices
I try to show that I'm more than a pretty face
I hope to be forgiven for what I am-
the beautiful girl you love to hate
