Noon and Night

You drive me to pain
And hope
Though I should have none.
I am the noon to your night,
Burning in tandem
With your cold fire.
Like noon and night
We never touch
But circle, instead
In a futile dance
Always close, but far apart.
How I yearn for you
To break the laws
Of stars and earth-
To extend the night
{The night's cold grip}
And cover sweet noon
In your cruel kindness.
Cover me
Smother me
And, in joining,
{In a flash of fiery dark,}
We would cease to exist
And become
The unbecoming.
