He lay in the darkness, curled in a fetal position, wrapped up in his many layers of blankets. It had been so many days. It had been so many days! He couldn't take it anymore. He wondered if Wyn missed him the way he missed Wyn. Thinking it over, he laughed bitterly and thought,” No, if Wyn missed me… he would have called, or written. He wouldn't have asked for a bloody break. Five months. It's been five months already.” He growled lightly and jabbed at his poor pillow angrily. Stupid Wyn! Stupid Wyn!
Ciaran sighed softly and proceeded to wrap himself further into his blankets. It was cold, and he missed the way Wyn would wrap him up in his arms, giving him a warm and safe feeling. The blankets were serving as a poor substitute. When Wyn was here… He shook his head suddenly, and scolded himself for moping… again. “Moping is unhealthy.”, he thought to himself. “Very much so.”
Someone tapped on the door, then twice more, and the door creaked open to let a sliver of light in along with a small black cat. Ciaran winced. He'd been locked up in his room for a while. His room didn't have windows. He hated it, but it was his way of punishing himself; though, for what he did not know. A head of a person peeked in, and Ciaran snuggled deeper into his blankets. He heard an exasperated sigh.
“Ciaran, wake up! You need to go pick up your little brother at the airport in about one hour.” said a female voice. That woke Ciaran up fast. Shit.
“I'm up! I'm up! Oh shit, the apartment….” he spoke rapidly as he moved to get out of bed, and fell face first into the floor, having tangled his legs in the blankets. He cursed as he heard the female giggle. “Oh do shut up Abigail! Why must you always laugh at my misfortune now? You used to be such a nice and caring girl!”
Abigail, the identity of the female voice, smiled and said,” Because Wyn’s not here to do it, silly! Someone must keep you in your place while Wyn’s away!” Ciaran froze, and Abigail realized that she had said something wrong. “Come along now Ciaran, you need to get dressed now. You have about 45 minutes …”
“Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!” said Ciaran as his panic made him forget about Wyn for the moment. “The apartment, his room… BREAKFAST!” He pulled a thick chocolate brown wool sweater over his head as he searched for a pair of pants. He grabbed the first pair that he saw, that being a pair of white cargo pants and put them on over his boxers. “Abigail, do you mind?! I'm trying to get dressed here!”
The girl laughed and said,” Its nothing I haven't seen before, my adorable roommate! And plus, Meesha’s looking too!” She pointed at the little cat that was staring at him. He scowled at the cat and then at its owner. “Oh stop being such a grouch Ciaran. You used to be such a cute little gay boy. Now you're almost as grouchy as the landlady.” Ciaran flushed and mumbled something about people changing as he reached for a black scarf draped across the chair. He wrapped it snugly around his neck and part of his face.
Abigail looked at him with an arched eyebrow at his warm attire. Ciaran glared and said,” Its cold outside.” She decided not to make a comment on his delicateness . That just might tick him off. He pushed past her into the living room with Meesha on his trail…. and was promptly amazed to see it in a state of complete cleanliness and neatness. There was even a faint smell of oranges in the air.
Ciaran’s mouth must have been open because now it was Abigail's turn to glare. “Please kindly pick up your jaw mister.” she said,” I know how to clean! I've watched you do it enough times to sort of figure out the basics.” She mumbled something about ungrateful brats, and Ciaran lunged himself at her in a bear hug, even though he was shorter than her by about two inches.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!!!” he said in such a cheerful and genuine manner Abigail hadn't heard for months, that all her annoyances with him were washed away. She patted him on the back.
“I'm making breakfast right now. You should get going. Its 6:50 a.m. already. His room's been cleaned out and everything. I even made the bed the way you usually do. I also put in the stuff that you bought for him earlier.” she said lightly as he looked at her with awe in his amber colored eyes. “Don't give me those googly wide eyes. Go pick up your brother!” And with that, she had ushered him out the front door of their apartment while shoving his keys into his hand. The door was shut quickly after she had given his black silky tresses a ruffling. Ciaran thanked God silently for blessing him with such a good friend and roommate before he rushed to his car with a cat on his trail.

Wyn sighed as the little child kept talking. He knew there was a reason why he didn't like children! The child kept blathering on and on about it's older brother. He had ignored it! But it kept talking, and talking, and talking, and…
“Oh and did you know my brother’s name is Ciaran? It means black I think. I don't remember EXACTLY what the book said. Oh, and he has nice, soft black hair and pretty amber eyes!” the little child sitting beside him said. Wyn blinked slowly once. The gears in his head were slowly turning. He blinked slowly twice.
Wyn said slowly but clearly,” Your last name wouldn't happen to be Donovan would it?” The child looked at him with round wide eyes.
It chirped,” How did you know? You're awesome, do you know that?!?” Wyn grinned at the young boy. Well, it had been promoted from an "it" to a he. Wyn didn't think Ciaran would appreciate it much if Wyn ran around calling his little brother “it”. He already got upset enough when Wyn called other children that. He supposed he could afford to be nice to ONE child if it meant making his little black haired one happy.
“So,” Wyn said casually,” I sort of didn't hear you the first time around when you were talking about your brother, Ciaran. Would you care to tell me again? I'd love to know more about him.”
The boy blinked at him slowly, and for a moment, Wyn thought with a bit of disappointment that he was going to refuse. But the boy burst out into childish laughter that didn't sound so bad now that he had identified the boy as something precious to Ciaran. If he worked things right, then he'd have Ciaran back in his arms in no time. He wasn't an idiot. He knew that Ciaran would definitely be angry with him, and he had been thinking about how to fix the problem that he had stupidly created. He grinned. God was on his side.
Wyn smiled indulgently as the boy eagerly began to talk about his brother again. But this time around, anyone could see that he was hanging off the boy's words, absorbing them as though they were vital nutrition that he needed. And, in a way, it was.

Ciaran drove as carefully as he could in the snow, but it was getting difficult. He cursed softly as snow began to fall faster and thicker. “Stupid snow.” He thought. “Stupid, stupid, stupid snow.” He drove even slower in fear of a car crash. And he just couldn't stop thinking, “ Stupid, stupid snow.”
Meesha sat in the passengers seat and stared at Ciaran. He glared the cat. It climbed into his lap. He frowned and said,” You're just as perverted as your mistress.”
The cat only mewled in response before purring.
Ciaran cursed the snow and stupid black cats this time. The cat snuggled up into his lap. The snow fell even thicker.
