Disclaimer: The poem’s mine, no one else’s. I honestly don’t need to repeat myself over and over again.

Author’s Note: Again, this was a class assignment – we had to write about two (already deceased) celebrities in heaven (it was based on a poem that we had read in class, I swear!) who were romantically involved. Anyway, I wrote about Richie Valenz, the legendary Latina singer who died in a plane crash, and Marilyn Monroe. Weird choices, I know – but it made an interesting poem, no? ^_^ And feel free to correct me on any errors . . . I’m an idiot when it comes to music.

Nothing breaks the current stone-still silence

for a while

Then a soft, male voice can be heard

through the immense silence

A twang of a guitar string

Then merciful quiet

The shine of the mirror against the sunlight is caught

on the wall

Reflecting a “blonde bombshell”

who’s now a little bit of a light brunette

A microphone is turned on

Lights are turned on

Spotlight’s on both of them

each in different places

The tune of a guitar and background music from

one of her movies play

somewhat, as if it were a miracle, in harmony

The actress acts and sings, her voice never fading

or out of reach of others

And the singer sings, his smooth baritone voice cutting

effortlessly through notes

Notes that he knows so well

And somewhere up there (still) today

The music’s still playing
