Samantha Mure had seen a lot of dead bodies in her time and this one was thankfully just that…dead.
Not raped and dead, not mutilated and dead, not canalised and dead, not killed for some freakish cult sacrifice and dead…just dead, and almost peacefully looking.
If you ignored the necklace of purple bruises about the slender neck she was quite pretty as well.
Samantha looked around the room, the wall to wall posters that told her to “believe in dreams” and “work like she didn’t need the money”, the apple Mac PC with the space travel screen savour and then back to the dead body before her.
“Okay lets bag her up and take her to the lab”
*~*~*
Renée lent her forehead against the computer screen and attempted to tune out the shouting going on outside her office, Susan would come storming in any moment and she wanted the last minuets of peace to finish her case notes before that happened.
The door burst open but it wasn’t Susan storming inside, instead it was her boss Margaret Williams.
Margaret had taken over in august last year and had completely rearranged everything, it had been her idea to throw Renée into a partnership with Susan who never got into work till 10 o’clock, two hours after everyone else and disappeared after a quick check in with her partner.
It was a wonder any of their cases ever got solved.
“I’m just finishing the notes on the Twain case” Renée said hurriedly “I can have it on your desk in five minuets tops”
“I’m glad, but that’s not what I want” Margaret said idly, picking up the little Buddha paper weight laying on top of the over-flowing in-try on the desk marked Gedrodcy. “Where is your partner?”
Renée shrugged, and went back to typing at least it’s not me in trouble she thought guiltily.
It was at that moment Susan came strolling in, a bag under one arm and a cup of coffee in the other hand, she took one look at the sceen in front of her and turned on her heal striding back out.
“Gadrocy” Margate icy voice stopped her still “I want to talk to you” Renée let a small smile creep across her face “and you too Kendal” the smile faded instantly.
“But…but you have all my reports!” Renée spluttered indignantly.
“I
have a new case for you as it happens, you too hear about the university student
found on Friday?”
Both women nodded.
“It’s a crying shame that” Susan added, edging past Margaret to put her things on her desk.
“That it is, but the university is worried. They want people undercover and I volunteered you too, you’ll be moving into the dorm next week so you have the weekend to pack and I’ve got you rolled into all of the dead girls classes” Margaret throw a file at Renée “read through this, both of you…its important”
As Margaret left Renée couldn’t resist muttering under her breath, she’d had plans for this weekend, from the way Susan flipped her the finger it appeared her partner did too.
