In The Pines

~*~

With heavy heart and broken bones
And tears in my eyes,
I crawled to a once familiar place
In the pines, in the pines...

As a small and innocent child,
I had once been sent away
To survive in the wild,
In this clearing I chose to stay.

On a cloudy winters day
I was brought back here,
A mournful cry had led my way
And caused my eyes to tear.

In this very clearing,
Oh, the heart wrenching sight!
A wolf lay here bleeding,
Pain in his eyes shone bright

When I awoke this morning,
Trembling from a visions in my dreams
My fathers animal call of warning
Told me that nothing was what it seems.

I felt the ground tremble and shake
As I ran to where my people stood
Pale haired riders stared at us with hate
Their attack was sudden, but I did all I could.

I fought, with rage tainting my once pure heart,
As I tried to save those I loved, I tore a rider apart.
His blood I tasted on my lips, I felt sick inside
But I kept fighting on, with friends by my side.

But as more blood was shed,
And the sky grew dark and red
In the distance my father fell,
My rage grew as I heard his angry yell.

I felt a beast within me rise
I know now that it would be my demise
Though I did avenge my father’s life
Before the rider died, he stabbed me with a knife.

With heavy heart and broken bones
And tears in my eyes,
I lie here dying in my favorite place
In the pines, in the pines...
