Prologue

A long time ago in a world far different from ours…

No one really knows how it came about. Different religions have their original take of what really happened. Some say a supernatural being came into existence and created the entire universe. Others thought gods came out of nothingness and did similar things. One thing was certain: there was always the same four guardians mentioned in every legend.

There were four guardians of Zoul. They were the Crystal Wolves; the protectors of the Northern Torches, Cyber Dragons; the gaurds of the Western Flame, Zephyr Eagles; the guardians of the Eastern Lantern, and the Star Lions; the defense of the Southern Lighthouse. Each of the guardians and the places they guarded represented the four elements: fire, water, air, and earth. With those in balance, there was peace among the land of Zoul.

Legend has it that there were eight powerful gems that supply the power of Enshuu. They were the Rain, Water, Sun, Fire, Thunder, Wind, Growth, and Earth Crystals. Years after the existence of the gems, a new one was created, the Moon Crystal. Each crystal represented the nine original races on Zoul- humans, elves, wolphnamun, dwarves, waptis, croocos, orcs, felis concors, and buhotans. All lived separately but managed to get along, somehow.

Slowly, each race became corrupted in a way. It all started with the elves, which branched off into several colonies. One was called the Dupa, who started using live sacrifices and their leaders caused their entire colony to live in a lie. But they really weren’t all bad- they were simply misunderstood.

Buhotans used force to gain expansions of their territory, thus creating the concept of warfare, for they went about in bands to kill their own blood. The queens often ran their colonies as a dictatorship and most of the citizens were too simple-minded to actually do anything about it.

Many others became corrupted in various ways. Though some legends have an excuse of why there was a supposed imbalance of Enshuu.

Loxo was a powerful and influential Crystal Wolf and tried to become some supernatural being through seizing power of the crystals. He gathered bands of other guardians to support him, thus creating a war between the guardians themselves.

Meanwhile, the temples the guardians protected where wide open. A man by the name of Melkor tried to take power and locked away the king spirit Eluned. Though he was eventually stopped as well.

Legend concludes with a truce among the guardians. In fact, they combined together to form the legendary creature called “Ginlila,” meaning “Silver Midnight.” Now there was only one of each guardian left, the continued to watch the power.

The power was locked away and the crystals were scattered all over Zoul. No one was ever able to find them. The guardians couldn't bring themselves to see the war again. Unfortunately, it did little to prevent the large war that erupted thousands of years later. The guardians have hidden themselves and have little knowledge of the outside world. Some don’t even know that war has been inflicted on the land.

Many living races, especially mankind had blamed it on the fact that Enshuu has been lost. There was a theory that stated that the low amount had caused the eruption of demons from the underworld, thus creating the class of demon hunters. Others believed that there was a goddess named Brielle, meaning “exalted goddess,” lay hidden and unconscious, causing the war to erupt.

In this time of warfare, a new plot began to take place behind the scenes….
