Dreams by Karisma Black

"To revel in the wonders of life, To think, to remember, to dream-- This is to know happiness." -- Giancarlo Di Gratsi

The light had long since faded from the sky, and the room was lit only by the soft glow of the computer sitting in front of Aislinn Finn. Where moments ago there had been the soft but furious sound of fingers tapping away at the computer keyboard, now only the sound of silence resonated in the room, though the room could have been as noisy as a bustling metropolis and she would have never noticed.
Instead, her eyes were focused on the sole source of light that permeated the room, scanning the words, the words that only a moment ago had only existed inside her head. Re-reading the words her fingers had worked so hard to make appear on the screen, she slowly sat back in her chair, letting out a soft breath that could only be a sound of completion.
It was finished.
Aislinn felt a rush of exhilaration. She'd done something she never thought she'd ever accomplish. The words had been committed to paper, they had came from her brain, and were channeled through her fingers, and the world that was only alive in her imagination was suddenly free. All of her hard work, many hours of late nights, tired eyes, and periods of time when she couldn't think of a way to express herself, the long days, months when nothing would come, and she'd merely stare at the computer, wanting so desperately to write, waiting for it to come...
It was finished.
Sitting in silence, Aislinn let herself come back to reality. Instead of being aware of the lush greens of trees, the familiar voices that she could have sworn were real, she was met with only the glow of a computer monitor and silence.
It was finally over.
It was over and Aislinn was forced to pull out of her peaceful reverie and live again. The weight of reality bore down on her as she pulled her legs out from under her and discovered that her legs had fallen asleep. It bore down on her when she realized that her eyes were heavy with sleep and she could barely keep them open. It bore down on her when she realized it was 3 A.M. and she only had another three hours before she had to wake up.
Crawling into bed, she didn't even bother to pull the covers around her, but she simply sprawled out, still dressed in her clothes that she hadn't remembered to change out of. As her eyelids weighed down and pulled her towards slumber, one thought lingered in her mind before sleep overtook her.
It was finished, and there was nothing she could do about it.
