A little sparrow in a cage,
Longs for a beak to cut the bars.
Sunlight streams from lamps,
Crude replicas of sun.

A little sparrow in a cage,
Wishes for freedom that does not come.
Time from past to present,
Unyeilding and strong.

A little sparrow in a cage,
Dreams of grass and trees.
Hope flaires ever ceasing,
Vic'try nearly won.

A little sparrow in a cage,
Her heart it turns to stone.
So heavy that it cannot fly,
When the bars become undone.
