Erin opened her eyes slowly, not wanting to be in the same place she
fell asleep, but back at home having woken up from a bad dream.
But her eyes could not grant the wish she had, she was still in the
same place, on the park bench near where he brother sat only hours ago.
Rubbing her eyes to adjust to the sunlight she looked at the bench
across from her, there was a boy staring right at her.
'Don't be ridiculous, he can't see you. You're dead, no one can see
you. ' she thought to herself, standing up and brushing off her jeans.
The boy continued to stare at her. She stared back. He was wearing
some black baggy jeans, and a red hoodie; his hair was sandy brown and his
eyes a crystal clear blue.
She blinked and looked away, stretching off the sleep on the cool
hard bench. She looked over again, he was still staring. She turned and
looked behind her to see what he could be staring at. There wasn't anything
but the bench and a tree. She looked back at him, and then looked down at
herself. Just some black pants, a white tank top, and a black leather
jacket.
She walked over to him, and bent down to look him in the eyes. She
blinked, he blinked. She waved her hand in front of him, and he spoke.
"Hi" he said simply, making her practically jump out of her skin.
"You can see me?!" She exclaimed.
"Plain as day . . ." he said simply.
"But how? I thought that no one else could see me because I was-" She
started.
"Dead? Well you are, but so am I." he said a nonchalantly as if they
were discussing the weather.
"How come no one else can see us?" Erin asked eagerly, wanting
answers she'd been wanting since she realized she was dead.
"Well, I'll explain it all to you . . . I would have done it awhile
ago but finding you in this city was like a needle in a haystack, not too
mention you wouldn't stop moving around." He laughed.
"My name is Daniel."

Tyler sat on his bed, leaning against the wall. He opened his eyes at
a knock on the door.
"Can I come in?" Selena's voice rang out.
"I dunno, can you open a door?" Tyler asked boredly.
"No reason to get snippy . . ." Selena said defensively, closing the
door behind her.
"Sorry . . ." he murmured, not looking up.
"What's up with you? You haven't talked to me since forever it seems
. . ." Selena said, sitting on his bed beside him.
Tyler just looked around at his room, pretending to be thinking,
though just deciding whether or not to tell her about Erin.
His room was pretty simple, blue walls with a large window on one
wall, his bed in the corner facing the window, a small t.v. on the wall
beside the window and a closet on the other wall; the floor was dull grey
carpet, with a bunch of clothes scattered here and there over it.
Sighing, Tyler looked at Selena.
"Have you noticed how Erin hasn't been around lately?"

Erin sat down on the park bench beside the boy.
"Hi, I'm Erin." She said quietly.
"I'm sure you have about a zillion questions about why no one can see
you, how you died and what not. So before you ask them, why don't I tell
you about all the basics that answer most of the first questions and then
if there's something that I haven't answered for you; you can ask, and I'll
try my best to answer it for you. Okay?" Daniel smiled at her, revealing a
stunning smile.
"Oh, okay." Erin said stupidly, just sitting there while someone
explained about being dead to her was a little weird.
"Well, when you die you end up feeling like you've just woken up from
either some sort of bad dream that was exactly like the way you died, or
you feel like you've been hit on the head with a big heavy thing and don't
know where you are. Then, a correspondent will come and explain to you what
happened like I'm doing now and then escort you to wherever you are
assigned to." Daniel explained.
Erin nodded to show she understood, as he continued.
"In some cases, there can be more than one correspondent coming to
get someone. Maybe if that someone has shown that they don't believe that
they are dead and try and live their life like it hasn't ended. Or if the
person didn't die naturally, like in your case; although you seemed to
understand pretty quick so they only sent me." Again, Daniel paused.
Well that had just answered the one question that Erin had been
chasing most. Whether or not she had been murdered.
"Now, people can't see you because they can't see people who have
passed on, essentially you're walking around as a soul right now, you don't
have a body or any matter to reflect light off so their eyes can't see
you." Daniel said simply.
"Okay. . ." Erin said slowly, ready to ask her questions, "but-"
"Wait a minute, I'm not done yet. Okay the correspondents are people
who died in a traumatic way and got over it really quickly by learning just
as quickly, or they are people who have been dead for a long time. I died
traumatically, when I was obviously your age. You can not age when you are
just a soul, you will be seen as a 19 year old to all souls that can see
you and you feel as young as you died forever." Daniel said.
"Now you can ask whatever questions you have." Daniel said with
another smile.
"Okay, can you tell me how I died? Oh, and who did it?" she said
quickly.
"Well, strictly speaking I shouldn't but you find out eventually
anyways, so we gave up on listening to that rule ages ago." Daniel paused
with a smile.
"Well you the way you died was pretty simple and evil none the less."
